Sorry to get political but, why does the US think Denmark cannot defend Greenland?

It's not Denmark's job, it's NATO's - to whit, the US.

Right?

Plus of course Greenland has never been under threat of invasion.

Technically, Greenland is not a NATO nation. But its security is a part of Denmark's defense commitments. Historically, Denmark failed to meet its NATO commitment of 2% of GDP, which is now up to 5%. The US, on the other hand, supplies 70% of the NATO budget, and 65% of the weaponry and military equipment. The US is, in essence, NATO.

I love hearing the spoiled children in the EU talking about kicking the US out of NATO. Putin and Xi are probably whacking off to the thought of it.

@BizSuitStacy It may not be a NATO “nation” but it’s part of the Council of Europe, and a member of NATO as part of Denmark.
@Lostwithielle Thank you for essentially repeating what I just wrote. 🙄

@Lostwithielle Ohhh, it absolutely is Denmark's responsibility. The Danes sayeth so, which is hilarious since they can't/won't meet their NATO funding commitment.

Never?

Greenland sits on the North American tectonic plate, so it is part of North America geographically. It's geopolitical significance to the US is tremendous. First attempts to purchase it, go back to 1867. Russia and China drooling over Greenland. You don't think they're a threat?

@BizSuitStacy frankly no. They’re not a threat. And there has never been evidence that they were “drooling over it” these last 80 years.
