Bill to avert January government shutdown clears key hurdle. What could derail it? Hint - Democrat demands to defund the Dept of Homeland Security.

Photo above - America hasn't had a true insurrection since John Brown decided he'd "had it up to here" with slavery. Are we overdue?

For the record, I predicted this. And many other people. Predicted that America’s longest government shutdown (last year) was such a blockbuster that there would be an immediate sequel. Voila – “Shutdown 2026. Sharknado!” (working title, until it comes to the screen). See link below.

But wait! There isn’t just the one $174 billion funding bill. There are 8 of them. Totaling billions and billions and billions. There is no single place anyone can go to find out what’s in, what’s out, and how much the national debt is going to go up if all 8 are approved.

If you or I ran a business this way, both the shareholders and government regulators would have our asses behind bars immediately. You can’t tell us what your spending is, and what your revenue is? Perp walk for you!

I’m predicting that America will construct more military bases than the 800+ we already have. Fund a bunch of senators earmarks for state level climate projects will happen, even though miles and miles of federal wind turbine farms are on the chopping block. Can we launch another space telescope? You only needed to ask . . .

But defunding the Department of Homeland Security is what could trigger a shutdown on January 30th. Democrats fervently believe that ICE shootings are a winning issue for the 2026 midterms. Trump believes it too and is talking about using the Insurrection Act to cancel mid-term elections.

This is exactly how I would do if I was running Venezuela, Nigeria, Romania, Malawi, or Gabon. It worked for them, kind of. But probably the stock market would crash to levels not seen in our lifetime if US elections were cancelled. So this may be either win-win, or lose-lose.

I’m just sayin’ . . .

@hippyjoe1955 thats what the courts are for. not government shutdowns

@SusanInFlorida So how many deaths are you willing to tolerate while the courts are kept out of the picture? The FBI took all the evidence regarding the Good murder so..... Ever hear of Epstein? How is that going in the courts?

@hippyjoe1955 nice pivot to epstein.

last i heard, Bill and Hillary dodged this weeks subpoena to appear before congress.

i would LOVE it if all 100,000 alleged documents were immediately released, without redactions and blurring of faces.

there must be some unexpected non-partisan reason why this doesn't happen. both democrats and republicans have access.

@SusanInFlorida Or "Nothing to see here folks" Bogino. I used Epstein as an example of how long it takes for the legal system to work. Personally I would prefer a real police force made up of screened and trained officers not some thugs off the street who won't even show their face.
