Trump is pissed off by ExxonMobil's CEO for saying Venezuela is uninvestable.
President Donald Trump says he is “inclined” to keep ExxonMobil out of Venezuela after its top executive was skeptical about oil investment efforts in the country after the toppling of former President Nicolás Maduro.
While smaller companies might be more eager to jump in and help boost Venezuela's oil production over the next year, those investments would likely hover in the $50m range - far from the "fantastical" $100bn figure that Trump has floated.
Exxon and Shell are "not going to invest single-digit billions of dollars, much less tens of billions of dollars", without physical security, legal certainty and a competitive fiscal framework.
So, why don't Donald Trump do it himself? He could easily raise $100 billion from political backers, set up a shell company in the Bahamas guarded by the US Navy.
