It's not about democracy, it's about oil

Trump is the master of deceit and delay.
For example, where's that wall that Mexico was going to pay to build?
But, moreover, Trump isn't interested in democracy, neither here in the U.S. or in Venezuela. To expect that he would be stretches credulity.

@beckyromero Either way, I laid out why he should be interested in the promotion of democracy in Venezuela.
That’s all I can do.

And how are they going to transition to democracy? Venezuela had democracy and they let it go. How is a country going to enjoy entrenched democracy if the people aren't interested in keeping the government honest?

@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP The people of Venezuela let it go and then reclaimed it de jure at the ballot box by voting Maduro out, twice.
The people of Venezuela overwhelmingly want freedom and democracy but only the US has the economic, military and political leverage to effect substantive change.

@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP That movement gained traction only after Milosevic was weakned by two US military interventions, on behalf of Bosnia and Kosovo. In the end, it was the individual leader who made the difference. Milosevic fortunately lost his nerve in 2000 - in part because he feared another round of US strikes - and Maduro, due to Cuban counter-intelligence operatives managed to suppress descent in 2019 and in 2024.
