"How the South Was Won."

On January 9th, 1861, the opening shots of the American Civil War took place when rebels fired on the Star of the West, an American merchant ship attempting to re-supply the U.S. garrison at Fort Sumter, South Carolina.

"How the South Was Won"

Freedom calls, the land of justice, proud and strong.
Union soldiers with courage, heart, and gun.
Down they rode across the South to right a wrong.
Fearless forever, that's how the South was won.

Side by side they fought to free a broken land.
Nothing stopped them, no foe, no fight, no gun.
Side by side these Union troops from Northern lands.
All joined together, that's how the South was won.

And they dreamed of the day when all would live in peace.
And when the chains of bondage were no more.
Where all the dreams of every freedman would increase.
And their hope and each fight for rights would soar and soar and soar.

Dream by dream they forged a Union strong and free.
And them knowing that more work still needs done.
Then at last, the USA as meant to be.
We won't forget them and how the South was won.

The goal of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) National Grave Registration Project is to locate the final resting places of all Union Civil War Veterans, and enter that information into the National Graves Registration Database. This undertaking is rather large and needs as many interested people to assist as possible.

Freedom is war, voting to end slavery would never have satisfied such a population! No reviews, no revisions, re enacted daily in Gettysburg, Americans have never learned different! War, baby! Yeah. You're killing all hope, but nobody wants to get involved in an excuse for you to nuke them. All backing away real slow from the last hegemon of the West.

Freedom is fragile. It is never guaranteed. It does not persist simply because we wish it to. Strength—unyielding, resolute strength—is the only safeguard against those who seek to take it away.

Freedom cannot be negotiated, for those who would take it from us do not bargain in good faith. It is rarely given, for those in power do not relinquish control willingly. It is usually won at great cost, paid for in the sacrifice of those who understand that life without liberty is no life at all.

And once lost, freedom is not easily reclaimed. The price for regaining it will be ever higher. The chains of oppression grow tighter with time, and the will to resist fades the longer people live in fear. The history of humankind is littered with the stories of those who surrendered their liberty, believing they could buy peace, only to find that the cost of regaining it would be paid in blood.

Only through strength can peace be secured. Only through vigilance can freedom endure. And only through sacrifice, if necessary, can it be preserved for those who come after us. Strength is not the enemy of peace—weakness is. The illusion of safety bought with submission has always led, inevitably, to greater suffering.

As President Ronald Reagan warned, "Freedom is a fragile thing and it's never more than one generation away from extinction."
@beckyromero personal freedom is a primary responsibility of a civilized society, along with protecting everyone from poverty and creating the expectation that nobody gets murdered by powerful people because we're not.
These things aren't new but as you go about destroying all accepted norms you project on us enemies within your own lawless clueless disdain for international law and human rights. Entitlements are not just nice to have. Get a clue.

There you go again. Painting those of us who OPPOSE Trump's lawlessness with the same brush.
