Despite CougarLisa's Skepticism, Becky Romero Is Proven Right Once Again.

House SUSTAINS Trump's veto of HR 131, despite it having passed unanimously on an initial voice vote.

The House voted to sustain President Trump’s veto of a previously-uncontroversial Colorado water bill, in a show of Republican loyalty to the president

The 248-177-1 veto override vote failed to meet the two-thirds threshold to send the matter to the Senate, resulting in the veto staying in place. Thirty-five Republicans voted with Democrats to override the veto and one Republican, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), voted present.

The bill had originally passed through the House and Senate by voice vote last year, signaling it was uncontroversial and widely bipartisan.

While Trump had cited the cost of the pipeline as his reason for vetoing the bill, his move was also seen as a way to act on political grudges.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) had suggested to a local news station that the veto could be retribution against her, since she was one of four Republicans who joined with on a petition to force a vote directing release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein. And Trump has targeted Colorado over the prosecution of former Mesa County elections clerk Tina Peters, who aligned with Trump’s claims of fraud in the 2020 election.

Only points out how important the Senate really is. 😔

@DeWayfarer

Immaterial in this case. Veto overrides need to pass by a two-third vote in both chambers.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@beckyromero it's is very relevant. It always must pass the Senate. Even if it did pass the house.

@DeWayfarer

Legislation can't even get vetoed UNLESS it first passes both chambers.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@beckyromero You know darn well that both parties want to look good to their constituents.

Hence it passed the first time. Republicans won't fight Trump though when push comes to shove.

Hence both the House and the Senate are needed. And a ⅔rds majority at that, on both.

It does no good to have just the House.

@DeWayfarer

Still doesn't matter. It's a mute point in the Senate since the House failed to override the veto.

@beckyromero Yet not a "moot" point for ANYTHING to pass the House and Senate.

And totally forget impeachment if a impeachment was to even be heard, much less a trail or conviction, in the Senate.

Chief Justice Thomas Clearance will see to the impeachment evidence to not being heard. Just like Roberts did.
