Dems May Control the House BEFORE the Midterms.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green resigned effective today and Doug LaMalfa (CA-1) passed away.

The Republican caucus is down to 218 - which is half of the House +1. There are currently four vacancies

Democrats are expected to fill two vacancies in the coming months: On January 31, there will be a runoff in Texas’ 18th District to fill the seat of former Representative Sylvester Turner, a Democrat who died in March. And on April 16, New Jersey will hold a general election to fill the seat of former Representative Mikie Sherrill, who was elected governor, in a solidly blue district.

Special elections will be needed to fill MTG's seat and LaMalfa's. Republicans would be favored in Georgia, but LaMalfa's seat is far less certain given Trump's unpopularity in California.

Right now, Speaker Mike Johnson can only afford two defections if all Members are present. But Representative Jim Baird of Indiana is currently hospitalized after a serious car accident.

Which brings up Lauren Boebert (R-CO). Trump decided to diss her after she refused to pull her support for the discharge petition resulting in the release of the Epstein files (a work in progress given the DOJ has "discovered" a million more documents to go thru).

Right now, Boebert may have more political power than any Republican in Washington expect for Trump. Whether she realizes this and, more importantly, whether she will use it wisely remains to be seen.

As news goes I suppose it is good news. Except that it wont make any difference to what actually happens. If congress do anything to slow trump his people will side track it in a court, or ignore it..Democracy has left the building...😷

@whowasthatmaskedman NOPE.

Your bothsidesism doesn't fit the facts. There is no democrat remotely comparable to tRump.

“What can I add that has not already been said?” Kelly said, when asked if he wanted to weigh in on his former boss in light of recent comments made by other former Trump officials. “A person that thinks those who defend their country in uniform, or are shot down or seriously wounded in combat, or spend years being tortured as POWs are all ‘suckers’ because ‘there is nothing in it for them.’ A person that did not want to be seen in the presence of military amputees because ‘it doesn’t look good for me.’ A person who demonstrated open contempt for a Gold Star family – for all Gold Star families – on TV during the 2016 campaign, and rants that our most precious heroes who gave their lives in America’s defense are ‘losers’ and wouldn’t visit their graves in France.

“A person who is not truthful regarding his position on the protection of unborn life, on women, on minorities, on evangelical Christians, on Jews, on working men and women,” Kelly continued. “A person that has no idea what America stands for and has no idea what America is all about. A person who cavalierly suggests that a selfless warrior who has served his country for 40 years in peacetime and war should lose his life for treason – in expectation that someone will take action. A person who admires autocrats and murderous dictators. A person that has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution, and the rule of law.

“There is nothing more that can be said,” Kelly concluded. “God help us.”

@ElwoodBlues We are on the same side here. I agree that the two sides are not like each other. And that Trump is a stand out villain. But American politics with its corruption and campaign funding arrangement mean that no strictly uncompromised candidate ever makes it onto the voting day list.. And the money likes it that way. So it wont change short of a revolt..😷
Oh great. More wars and inequality! You're unbeatable.
