What is really dark about what happened to Maduro and his wife and nobody is talking about

Nobody seems to be talking about why his wife was kidnapped too. And if you think it through it gets really dark and messed up. It is pretty clear the only reason to take her too was so that the Venezuelan people would not have her as a symbol to rally around to resist American colonialism. They took her because it would be politically inconvenient for them.

So she will likely be convicted on bogus charges and rot in an American prison all because she was inconvenient to the Trump regime.

Wrong.

She was taken because there is an indictment against her for drug trafficing too. She will also be tried and, most likely, sent to prison.

@justbob They will both go to prison. That is how political show trials work.

Look at the indictment. It is a political speech not a legal document.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow if this were a real trial, first the court would make sure the charges are actual crimes.and that the prosecution has evidence that those crimes were committed. Then the court would debate whether it has jurisdiction over this case. I would expect this process to be slow, and that the SCOTUS may be involved with the jurisdiction question. If this gets to trial, they will debate whether to try both together or separately and whether they have a right to a jury. If it actually gets to a jury trial, the debate over jurors begins, and there is a high likelihood of a hung jury.

He won’t be convicted. The goal here is to tie them up in the legal process long enough for Venezuela to form an opposition government. When that happens and when the court directs them to, the Trump administration extradites him back to Venezuela to face charges there. Or this extends to the term of the next president, and if a Democrat, he gets released immediately.
@trollslayer That is certainly a possibility. But there are a couple of flawed assumptions here.

First off that Venezuela will ever likely form a government friendly to the US short of eventually installing Maria "Juan Gaido 2.0" as a colonial viceroy is a pretty flawed assumption. Kind of the "we will be welcomed as liberators" idea in Iraq.

Some commentators have pointed out that it is interesting that they did choose a court with a reputation for moving at a glacial pace whereas they could have charged them in basically a tribunal in Virginia with a closed court and secret indictments and secret "evidence."

But there is also the assumption Trump plans on leaving at the end of his term.

That is definitely not a given.

One of the wilder ideas I have heard is that they might pull a Ghislaine Maxwell with him and get him to make false statements that confirm the MAGA conspiracy theory that Venezuela rigged the 2020 election against Trump than send him back.

There are also some who think he will be railroaded for mocking Trump.

Basically I think all of these are possible since we are dealing with a man child dictator.
