@SunshineMom isn’t that an oxymoron? Saying you’re for it and then. Calling someone a racist for being for it? Can’t be both ways
trollslayer · 46-50, M
@SunshineMom how is stating the truth racist?
@CougarLisa Seeing someone cry because of their circumstances is not my idea of a good thing.
pdockal · 56-60, M
@SinlessOnslaught

Then every criminal would just cry so you'd let them go unpunished
pdockal · 56-60, M
@pdockal If all anybody had to do was cry to convince me that they were innocent then yes, and I'm sure you hope that's the case so you can shoehorn me into some political label that's convenient for you. That's why I'm not interested in talking to you.

I asked the lady a question. It's hers to answer.

Trying to remind them
@idontcareok Are these the same Somalis who were accused without evidence of eating dogs & cats or are we talking about other Somalis??
idontcareok · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues the others, you eat worms
@idontcareok Let's listen to St Ronald of Reagan!

Our nation is a nation of immigrants. More than any other country, our strength comes from our own immigrant heritage and our capacity to welcome those from other lands.

-- Ronald Reagan, Jul 30 1981, Statement on United States Immigration and Refugee Policy

Other countries may seek to compete with us; but in one vital area, as a beacon of freedom and opportunity that draws the people of the world, no country on earth comes close.

This, I believe, is one of the most important sources of America's greatness. We lead the world because, unique among nations, we draw our people -- our strength -- from every country and every corner of the world. And by doing so we continuously renew and enrich our nation.

... Thanks to each wave of new arrivals to this land of opportunity, we're a nation forever young, forever bursting with energy and new ideas, and always on the cutting edge, always leading the world to the next frontier. This quality is vital to our future as a nation. If we ever closed the door to new Americans, our leadership in the world would soon be lost.

-- Ronald Reagan, Jan 19 1989, final speech as President

@pdockal Here's the thing. Those Somalis, and many others, were admitted as legal asylum seekers. They did NOT sneak across any borders.

And then tRump declared them "illegal." Their only crime was triggering tRump's prejudice.

Two of my mother's grandparents were legally living in a country and then suddenly declared "illlegal." This was in 1943. After being declared "illegal" they were shipped off to a "camp" -- in a country where they had no connections -- where they perished. tRump also likes to ship "illegals" off to harsh camps in countries where they have no connections.

The parallels are striking. Would you like to delve into a comparison between the tactics of ICE ignoring due process in 2025 and those of the Brownshirts in 1934?
pdockal · 56-60, M
@ElwoodBlues

Nobody is ignoring due process
Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) of 1996 signed by slick Willie gives then that power your referring to
If you have a problem then you should have screamed @ slick Willie

In 2025, investigations into large-scale fraud in Minnesota involving the Somali American community have found that a significant portion of those implicated have various legal and illegal immigration statuses.

Nothing to debate
You just don't like the narrative

@SinlessOnslaught seeing someone pay for their crimes and bad decisions is a wonderful thing!
@pdockal Nope. The US Constitution says
... nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law ...

Any person dude, that means every human being in the US gets due process including criminals, "illegal aliens" etc etc. In fact, if you remove the scare words from sunstroke's post, that's exactly what the judge is saying.

Need to see what SCOTUS has ruled??
Shaughnessy v. United States ex rel. Mezei, 345 U.S. 206, 212 (1953); see also Mathews v. Diaz, 426 U.S. 67, 77 (1976) ("There are literally millions of aliens within the jurisdiction of the United States. The Fifth Amendment, as well as the Fourteenth Amendment, protects every one of these persons from deprivation of life, liberty, or property without due process of law."); Plyler v. Doe, 457 U.S. 202, 215 (1982) (holding that unlawfully present aliens were entitled to both due process and equal protection under the Fourteenth Amendment).

Here's a bit more from Mathews v. Diaz 1976 including citations of prior rulings.
There are literally millions of aliens within the jurisdiction of the United States. The Fifth Amendment, as well as the Fourteenth Amendment, protects every one of these persons from deprivation of life, liberty, or property without due process of law. Wong Yang Sung v. McGrath, 339 U. S. 33, 339 U. S. 48-51; Wong Wing v. United States, 163 U. S. 228, 163 U. S. 238; see Russian Fleet v. United States, 282 U. S. 481, 282 U. S. 489. Even one whose presence in this country is unlawful, involuntary, or transitory is entitled to that constitutional protection. Wong Yang Sung, supra; Wong Wing, supra.

Even one whose presence in this country is unlawful, involuntary, or transitory is entitled to that constitutional protection.

Thank you, SCOTUS for being clear, unambiguous, and leaving zero wiggle room.
