What I learned is if you're going to make addicts happy you still have to keep ordinary people happy too.
So if you're not locking druggies up any more you still have to steer them towards somewhere like an overdose prevention center or perhaps rehab.
What you have to avoid at all cost is Ordinary non drug addicted laymen who aren't trained on how to deal with addicts exposed directly to addicts when they're just trying to go about their regular commence business.
it effectively moves it out of a dark dingy alley and into a building but still away from shoppers.
if you piss the shoppers off, by letting them just inject in the open, the voters will turn on you start calling their legislature and demand recriminlzation, so you need a plan for what to do with the addicts after decriminialization passes.
That's how we fucked up, we just let them shoot up in the streets. That is, needless to say, going to drive a backlash. no one felt safe taking themselves and their loved ones shopping downtown anymore.
