@Alexander18 Too much of politics is just about making people you don't like miserable. The problem is you end up making things worse for everyone or for people you didn't think would be affected. Spite-based politics is a lose-lose situation.

@Alexander18 Around the twenty-tens. By that point, Americans as a whole became so progressive that it became impossible for Republicans to run on policy. So the media, most of which is right-wing, started making politics more about personality. If Trump ran for office ten years earlier, he would have lost in the primaries. But by the time we got to 2016, a large portion of America had been groomed into not caring about policy. Instead, right-wing politics became all about vengeance.
