Scromiting

More brand new made up words for the 21st Century. (Don't dismiss it. After all, and inferior affirmative action hire has now been transformed to a DEI hire, as in Didn't Earn It.)

The word "scromiting" means screaming and vomiting and is a symptom of smoking pot.

A condition called "scromiting" — a combination of screaming and vomiting — is increasingly sending habitual marijuana users to emergency rooms nationwide.

The medical name for this condition is Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome. Patients, including teenagers, arrive at hospitals with severe stomach pain and uncontrollable vomiting episodes.

In a peculiar attempt at self-treatment, patients often take scalding hot showers to find relief from their symptoms.

Emergency room visits for teens with this condition increased more than 10-fold between 2016 and 2023, highlighting the growing prevalence of Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome.

What's the deal with marijuana? Well, since the last debate in the last century, there are several states (Florida being one) that offers medical marijuana for pain control. Doctors hand out those scrips like it's Halloween candy. Florida in the last election had recreational marijuana on the referendum list. (Interestingly enough, Florida resident PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP (THE MOST CENTRIST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY) voted FOR it. This same CENTRIST president has been working to get cannabis taken down from the Schedule One list.

In Florida, cannabis (hemp) plants are legal, so long as they do not contain THC, (the psychoactive ingredient in pot.) And at the same time, there are wine stores selling a soda containing THC. A liquid joint in a can.

Where do I stand on all this? It's pretty simple.

I believe you have to be dumber than a dead ox to use your fragile lungs as a delivery for a high, would would include pot, smoking crack and smoking tobacco. I don't want to be around marijuana smoke (probably the same reason as I don't want to be around the inside of a septic tank.) It is a noxious smell.

Several states passed laws prohibiting smoking in public places and restaurants. As a kid, I lived in a tobacco world, where we'd go out to dinner and idiots all around us were lighting up those cancer sticks. It's nice that today one doesn't have to put up with that pollution.

And now there's a brand new symptom associated with the idiots who use their lungs as a delivery device for a high. Scromiting.

Still, I have no problem with taking marijuana off the Schedule 1 list, so long as the public smoking prohibitions are in place.

To tell you the truth, I have been smoking weed for over 50 years. I just finished another full spectrum physical
and I am in perfect health. Clear/strong lungs, no artery plaque, strong bones, everything is good/normal.

One other habit of mine is exercise and nutrition. I have been a gym rat for the past 45 years, and I take a lot of vitamins.
That could have something to do with the good health.

Weed isn't for everyone, but I enjoy light usage. It's legal where I live. Weed stores everywhere.
@DogMan Another interesting aspect of the weed question is the extent to which weed substitutes for booze.

Weed can certainly have harmful impacts on the body and on society, but the harmful impacts of alcohol are FAR FAR greater. So it's a net win when people switch from booze to weed.

Personally, decades ago I realized I have an addictive personality I began abstaining from both, but I support weed legalization because it's not as bad as booze.

@ElwoodBlues I was actually against legalization, I changed my attitude about it a few years ago.

I don't really have an addictive personality, although I am addicted to exercise, which kind of keeps me
from doing stuff that harms my body. I like a toke now and then, also a beer or two. But I don't like to
feel out of control.

It's funny how you can drive down I-15 in Las Vegas and smell weed. Many of the big dispensaries are close to
the strip.

@ElwoodBlues Do you workout Elwood? Did you know that just doing calf raises helps your heart? Some call the
calf muscles the second heart. Doing calf raises pumps blood throughout your body. Have you ever seen sedentary
people's calves? They get huge and purple because of blood pooling down there due to zero exercise.

My 72 year old sister was getting like that. I made her a little calf raise board and after a few months her calves were
normal and muscular. It strengthened her lower legs, feet and ankles. She walks much better and has better balance.
@DogMan I was a distance runner in my youth decades ago. These days my wife & I walk and hike; we have a 3 mile loop we do regularly.

@ElwoodBlues Thats great, a 3 mile loop is perfect, keep it up. I did a ton of hiking,& backpacking, in my 30's and 40's.

My wife likes Wii Fit and the Oculus VR workout programs. I think its called Supernatural. I always tell people that
the most important thing about exercise is doing something you enjoy, so you stay consistent. I have always loved
going to the gym, my wife does not.
