Senator Bernie Moreno of Ohio is planning to introduce legislation that would end dual citizenship.
Both Melania and Barron are citizens of the US and Slovenia – the first lady's home country. The First Lady was born in Slovenia and she filed the paperwork to get her only child the same dual status.
Moreno's planned legislation would require those with dual citizenship to renounce their foreign ties if they want to keep their status in the US.
However, it is highly unlikely that the legislation would be approved due to Supreme Court precedent which protects the right to dual citizenship.
