Motley Fool – US economy “breaking”. But new stock market highs are expected . . .

Photo above - obviously fake AI picture showing Trump preparing to take his MRI test last month. Hey guys - at least make the doctors different ages, races, and genders, okay?

The S&P 500 index hit 6,849 on Friday. It’s up 14% for the year. Huzzah!

Actually, that’s not right. If you look back to April 7, 2025, the index hit a low of 4,836. It’s up 2,000 points since then. More than 40%. Does that make everyone more relieved?

In case you ARE nervous, MSN and Motley Fool says don’t worry be happy. The stars point to even higher highs in our future. See link below.

The headline (US Economy Breaking) appears to be shameless clickbait, as the “story” by reporter Sean Williams immediately launches into the good news: “Historical precedent favors optimistic, long-term investors, , , excited about the Federal Reserve's ongoing rate-easing cycle.” You have to read down to the 99th paragraph to find out that 12% of commercial property mortgages are in default. What do you do when you repo something like the Trump Tower? The $30 billion Vogtle nuclear power plant in Georgia? SoFi stadium in Los Angeles? Schedule an open house for walkthroughs? Go directly to auction? (note to readers – there is no online list of which buildings are actually behind on loans. Banks cite financial confidentiality . . . ).

Some car company went belly up last week after it's employees sued for unpaid back wages. The number of corporations behind on their power and gas bills almost certainly exceeds the number which are stiffing their employees on payday. Do we need more bankruptcy judges in the short term?

Seven months ago – immediately after Trump announced tariff-palooza – the market crashed. Down from 6,100 on inauguration day to 4,836. A loss of 20% in just 2 months. And here we are today. Same president, same tariffs, higher federal debt, and facing another government shutdown next month. Wall Street pros apparently couldn’t be happier.

I'm just sayin' . . .
