Indigenous Actress Detained By ICE

The indigenous actress Elaine Miles was detained by ICE agents in Redmond, Washington. She is a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. She's known for her roles Northern Exposure, Smoke Signals and The Last Of Us.

Miles was waiting bus stop in Redmond, WA on November 19, on her way to Target in Redmond, when a couple of black SUVs, with no plates descended on her, and demanded to see identification. She was detained when she presented her Tribal ID (valid for travel everywhere in the US, Canada and Mexico), and the ICE agents told her this is a fake ID.

Members from the same Tribe were also arrested months ago, while fighting a fire on the Olympic Peninsula, when ICE raided the firefighters camps and arrested several firefighters.

Someone should tell Dog Slayer that she's trying to arrest an Umatilla Indian Nation citizen, on her own extended territory.

Perhaps ICE was hoping to arrest people as they took the bus to look for work at the HomeDepot next to Target. Sad.

While U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a federal agency that should, in principle, accept identification from federally recognized tribes, consistent acceptance in practice remains a significant problem. There have been multiple reported incidents where ICE agents have questioned or outright rejected valid tribal IDs, leading to the detention or delay of U.S. citizens who are Native Americans
many tribal leaders and legal aid organizations advise their members to carry multiple forms of identification, such as a state driver's license or U.S. passport, in addition to their tribal ID, to avoid complications during encounters with ICE or other law enforcement.

@Northwest

a tribal ID does not supersede a federal ID, but a federally recognized tribal ID is often accepted as a valid form of government-issued identification in situations where a federal ID is required, such as at airports. While it is an acceptable form of ID for purposes like domestic air travel, it is not a "superseding" document and is a distinct but equal form of identification in many federal contexts

Federal IDs are documents issued by the federal government, such as a U.S. passport, a Permanent Resident Card, or a U.S. military ID

Tribal IDs are issued by a federally recognized Native American tribe and are accepted by some federal agencies, like the TSA for air travel, as an alternative to a REAL ID-compliant license or a passport

Your missing the point

I was going to comment on this, but your debate style shows you didn't progress past 2nd grade, so no point.

The point, dummy, is:

Someone should tell Dog Slayer that she's trying to arrest an Umatilla Indian Nation citizen, on her own extended territory.

As well as how ignorant the ICE agents are of what a Tribal ID means, nor what a tribal ID is, or under what administration they were created. However, it's certain that the Trump administration started hiring federal agents who have no fucking clue what a Tribal ID is. BTW, that's' the Target I do to when I'm picking up my medical prescriptions, and nearly every week, we're treated to drones chasing people along side roads adjacent to 520.

It's like to one of those fucking apocalyptic movies, where alien drones are chasing people.

I accept this as proof that not only are ICE agents racist. They cant tell one race from another. Since her people have been in the country longer than the agents, I think the balanced approach would be to deport the agents.. In the unlikely event that justice actually does triumph here, I think it is reasonable to treat ICE agents the way SS soldiers were treated after World War 2..😷

Beware if your skin and hair is a little dark in America. You have lost your rights. "Show us your papers", where have you heard that before?

@MoveAlong Yes. Suntans are now deprecated.
