I think Keir Starmer is finished.

As an armchair expert on the murky Kremlinology of UK politics, I sense his time is up. I think that Morgan McSweeney and the bureaucrats who run the party are set to try and replace him with Wes Streeting. All these damaging leaks look very orchestrated and not by Starmer.

The budget is about to drop and it's likely to include a lot of unpopular measures. Starmer is very unpopular and already on weak ground.

I don't think Streeting will be better at all because he's an arch Blairite. His communication skills will give him a brief honeymoon but that will wear off.

When Sunak was PM I marvelled at just how bad he was at politics. Now Starmer has outdone even him. I think there's a lesson in there that people who weren't politicians in the first place really aren't suited to the highest office in the land.
@LegendofPeza In Canada the situation is not much better. I think we are on confidence number 3 over Carney's very first budget.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Carney pretended to be centre left and is an arch neoliberal. Seen that story many times

@Burnley123 At least he doesn't call Trump "daddy" 😑
@Burnley123 Oh absolutely. People are already commenting about what was the point of voting for Carney is we are getting the same policies as the Tories.

People got used to Trudeau who was also a neoliberal but was far better at making speeches and speaking in progressive language while not actually being any different.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow MPs crossing the floor from the Tories makes a lot of sense!
@Burnley123 That also has alot to do with plummeting confidence in Pierre Polievre.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Sure. David Cameron like Conservatives pick Carney's liberals over b-list MAGA. It all ties in.
@Burnley123 Many Conservatives also were not ok with him pressuring someone to step down to force a bi-election so he could run yet again in a guaranteed riding after losing his seat in a landslide.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow You'd know better than me but it seems like the Canadian conservatives are stuck between their traditional neoliberalism and rightwing populism. They can't go full MAGA because if how much the Orange One is trying to screw Canada. They can't not do because the status quo is unpopular.
@Burnley123 The Conservatives in Canada are a mess for a reason. And your observation is actually very much true although it predates Trump by several years. He is just pouring petrol on the fire.

Imagine that the British Tories get destroyed in the next election. Like reduced to single digit seats level of loss. From there they barely manage to get back to double digits for several years.

Now imagine someone in the Tories assists in a hostile takeover of the Tories by UKIP. That is essentially what happened with the Progressive Conservatives and the Canadian Alliance 20 years ago.

And imagine that for the last decade the Tories are run by the Nigel Farrage equivalents. That is the Canadian Tories on the national stage.

They are two very different parties functioning under a single banner.

Alberta had nearly an identical situation happen on the Provincial level a few years ago and it has been a basketcase ever since.

Trump has merely amplified the issues behind the fake unity on the right.
