You only go back to the 50s. The United States Of America was founded based on the most subversive concept of all: Freedom from a state run religion. Gee, Americans have fought for subversive causes ever since.
The subversive Republican Party was created to overturn the greatest entitlement mentality of all time: DemoKKKrat Slavery.
And DemoKKKrats FOUGHT A CIVIL WAR to preserve slavery. Excuse me, but no "No Kings" rallies today come anywhere near the level of a CIVIL WAR.
Black slaves were freed. The Democrats then created a subversive policy called Jim Crow laws, in order to "keep nigras in dey place."
The government takeover of the money supply (better known as the Federal Reserve) was subversive and it led to the Roosevelt GREAT DEPRESSION.
FDR then LIED to get America into the most subversive movement of the 20th CEntury: WORLD WAR TWO.
Beatniks? Hippies? Don't make me laugh. They might as well have been children.

@Reason10 what a strange and twisted view of history you have bought into or come up with.

I agree with you, but unfortunately it's MAGA that is "technically" our counterculture. I know we associate counterculture with peaceful protests, sit ins, and social messages in music, but the complete opposite of peace in authoritarianism, totalitarianism, and ultimately fascism, which are MAGAs methods for achieving their goals. The before mentioned tactics are not the norm in achieving goals in a democratic society. We must however recognize that MAGAs extreme push back against progress is nothing more than a sign that they are are no longer relevant in a true democratic society where everyone literally has a voice.

Just pitching my proverbial two cents in...
In my own limited way, I've often considered myself an eccentric individualist/nonconformist/misfit/free-thinker/outcast who throughout his life has often drifted from one clique to another.
Almost as though to
put it in a paradoxical way, like I belong, but don't belong, you know what I'm saying?
Most of the people I'm friends with, see me as this cool, hip, trendy guy and while that does hold true in some respects, I'm also a bit of a nerd, too.
All the friendships/acquaintanceships I've established over all the years of my life that I've lived thus far are all genuine connections established over mutual interests and bonds based on commonality.
The short of it, is that I've been through a lot and everything's rubbed off on me in one form or another.

I agree, but it's probably not something to promote on social media, as it immediately becomes a meme or is flagged up by the authorities and easily controlled or censored (if it's a significant movement that might gain traction).
My advice is to go old school. Printed pamphlets, posters, photocopied zines, arranged club nights, illicit meeting houses, etc. Use tactile, physical materials that can be passed around but whose sources aren't easily traced. Digital media is monitored, tagged with meta data, trolled by bots. The authorities have poured resources into policing the internet. Finding out where pamphlets are photocopied isn't so simple.

@Richard65 Who reads pamphlets now?
People can't be bothered to go to club nights. They are watching the latest Monsters season on Netflix.

@yestestvennaya that's my point exactly. Those people will never create a sub or counterculture because they are too invested in the regular culture, so will continue to watch Netflix. Those who are dedicated enough to the idea of a new subculture will have the enthusiasm to work at it. If you follow cultural trends, do you know what young people are buying? Old printing presses, screenprinting facilities and woodtype collections. Old school printing is gaining traction. A lot of younger people are getting tired of digital communication.

@Richard65 Technology will remain. It is the opium of today's youth.
The political fancies come and go.

I feel like the Queer/trans/nonbinary culture of many youth today is truly subversive. It messes around with what were formerly taken-for-granted assumptions about humans and how the world works. And there is a lot of creativity in it.
