The truth matters — even when it’s inconvenient.

There are people posting obnoxious memes (most memes are) blaming Republicans and Donald Trump for “starving Americans” and “refusing to feed our own people.” Note...I am a Constitutional Conservative; I have problems with both parties.

Think about something for just one second. This government shutdown/showdown isn’t about helping Americans; it’s about politicians choosing illegal (operative word being "illegal") immigrants over U.S. citizens. Full stop.
The Republicans are no saints other, but in this instance I have to put most of the blame on the Democrats absolute hatred for Trump.

We are one of the wealthiest nations on the planet, yet somehow we’re expected to fund unlimited housing, healthcare, education, and benefits for millions of non-citizens before we take care of our own? That’s not compassion, that’s insanity. People who have entered our country illegally are not entitled to those things. Yes, they are entitled to be treated with the same respect as any other human being, but the only housing they should be entitled to is a detention facility while they await being sent back home. Come here legally...got no problem with that.

Democrats, as well as some Republicans, have voted MULTIPLE times to keep pushing the same failed continuing resolutions that prioritize illegal immigration spending while ignoring the spiraling costs on American families. Now, suddenly, they “care” about hungry citizens? No…what they care about is scoring anti-Trump political points. They care about headlines, not households. If they truly cared about the people they post about, they’d fix the border. They’d stop incentivizing illegally entering the country. They’d put AMERICANS first for once. Instead, they’d rather blame Republicans for refusing to fund their chaos.

Here’s the bottom line:
It is NOT the responsibility of the U.S. taxpayer to fund every nation in the world. It IS, however, the responsibility of our elected officials to take care of Americans FIRST. America First should not be controversial. End this idiotic shutdown now. Pay our military; take care of our veterans; feed the homeless. Maybe if we make the path to US citizenship less complex, we wouldn't have as many illegals entering this country. The system is broken; fix it.

Again, there's plenty of blame to go around. If the Republicans really cared as much as they say they do, they wouldn't always cave to the demands of the Democrat Party. Republicans need bigger cojones. Ironically, the toughest Republicans seem to be women. Maybe the men need to take a page from their books. Maybe it's time for both wings of the same bird to put aside their petty crap and remember their oath of office.

It's time for all these self-serving politicians to go...both sides of the aisle need a massive cleaning out. There should be no such thing as a career politician.
I know a lot of people who have been negatively affected by this shutdown. There are many people who absolutely need those SNAP benefits. It's no joke. Both parties need to pull their respective heads out of their respective butts and honor their oath of office for a change, and not their monumental egos.

What line in the budget gives free healthcare to illegal immigrants? People keep saying it does all the time. So where does that come from?

It doesn't. If you read the republican press releases closely, the always combine spending on LEGAL immigrants with spending on "illegals."
Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs or green card holders), are subject to a five-year waiting period for federally-funded coverage.
That means LPRs are eligible for medicare and medicaid but only after 5 years.

There's nothing in the democrats' bill that expands any of that to the undocumented. However, there is one way that the undocumented receive medical care, and that's at emergency rooms. Reagan's 1986 Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act requires a medical screening examination and stabilizing treatment for anyone, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.

Neither party is proposing to force ERs to check citizenship or insurance status before delivering life saving care. Thus, Reagan's 1986 EMTALA does give some dollars worth of care to "illegals" as well as American citizens.

By mixing that number in with the money for legal permanent residents, repubs can wave around a bigger number and make all kinds of specious & misleading claims.

@ElwoodBlues @ElwoodBlues Yea that’s what it sounds like. But people are so blinded by hatred of immigrants they’ll believe all kind of nonsense about luxury hotels and free health care 🙃

@EBSVC In the democrats proposal.
Continuing the Covid ACA makes some immigrants eligible for the insulin and Medicaid. Reversing Medicaid cuts will allow more emergency Medicaid which has been abused for non emergency medical issues

Pull up Medicaid abuse by immigrants. You will find a lot of articles. I choose to believe the reasons the politicians I voted for have given for the Medicaid cuts. One reason I voted for them. Pull up ACAand how it benefits immigrants. It explains

some immigrants ...

As I specified above, those people are
Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs or green card holders), are subject to a five-year waiting period for federally-funded coverage.
And this is NOT a change from our healthcare rules from prior years. Are you, @missyann, now trying to conflate LEGAL immigrants with the undocumented??

Pull up economic contributions by legal immigrants. You will find a lot of articles. I don't consider this a valid way to do research; I'm just pointing out the method is flawed.

I choose to believe the reasons the politicians I voted for have given
I choose to look for valid data to support claims made by politicians.

@ElwoodBlues Are you telling me that you don’t look your information up on the internet. ? You love to give me links that according to you are gospel

@ElwoodBlues I just told somebody else I look up the actual affordable care act policies were what’s in the budget bill from government sites, which is why I don’t like putting links in here

There is not one news media in this country that is honest, not one. They are now tabloid reporters. When I do watch the news, I listen to what the actual Polian are saying not how they interpreted so you don’t need to send me any more links.

Yes, the story about the hospital came from a neighbor who is a nurse and was taking care of these children, but I did not see it with my own eyes I am surprised that she told me when another neighbor and I were walking because this woman is very liberal with her beliefs and views, but this incident she was questioning because she saw these families side-by-side This was the first time for an interpreter for a patient. She usually had issues trying to understand what they were saying. Do you not think an incident like this could be happening?
When they come over the border for something like this, do you actually think that payment plans are set up or that doctors and hospitals just donate the facility and their services. Yes I do realize that hospitals have government support and tax breaks, but there is no way that they would write off cancer treatment 100%
EBSVC · 36-40, T
@missyann OK so you’re only talking about lifesaving emergency medicine. Insulin? Really?

It sounds like you’re arguing that we need to let illegal immigrants die in the streets then.

If everything you’re talking about is life saving emergency medicine then yes it should be given to every human in our borders regardless of anything else.

I expect you’ll reject my characterization but that’s all you’ve said and I’m trying to be civil as best as I can

Sorry, I couldn't make sense of that. You looked up the site but you can't copy & paste a link? Can't quote the relevant text?

There is not one news media in this country that is honest, not one.
Nor is there a politician who is honest either. Sure skepticism is needed for every source.

So how should you rate sources? First, look at the error RATE. If a politician goes on 60 minutes for 28 minutes and tells 18 falsehoods, that's pretty unreliable. Don't trust that politician. Other than falsehoods, politicians will often feed you a misleading set of partial truths. So what's the part of the story they're not telling and how significant is it??

With news media, who publish hundreds of reports per day, look to see if they regularly publish corrections. With that volume, errors will creep in, so see how they handle them. Regular corrections are an indicator of reliability. Does your source provide them??

@ElwoodBlues I am disguised with both sides right now with the shutdown They both lie

I am hoping that republicans will address healthcare and come up with reforms and keep parts of the ACA. It can’t be eliminated, but it can be reformed. Giving illegal immigrants public assistance only gives them the incentive to cross our borders illegally.

I called my congressman and senator yesterday and let them know this I also said that they can keep it all of the ACA if Democrats agree that states cannot give their state money to illegal immigrants receiving Medicaid. I believe they need to give state money to their elderly disabled veterans and their poor citizens. I also said that all of the money they allocated for USAID to go for birth control and for children facing life-threatening illnesses to receive the tear they had to have in their countries instead for example, baking classes for male prostitutes in circumcisions. Congress has to come up with realistic and deficient immigration hearings with more judges ASAP if they expect DHS implement deportations

Democrats need to stop fighting deportation. ICE agent need to be properly trained to not use excessive force and arresting American citizens.is under control. But they cannot be eliminated because they are needed.
We cannot blame all agents because a few are acting badly. Protesters cannot be allowed to attack agents for arresting illegal immigrants as long as they are following legal procedures

I do believe that we have a moral obligation to help people, but that does not mean that we have to let them into our country. Why can’t we offer financial assistance to legitimate groups to reform their own country? The United States is the most charitable country in the world. I know that most of. the churches in this country would donate food, clothing, and other basic needs

There is nothing un Christian about helping citizens within our own country before we open our borders to immigrants
We need to increase wages instead of allowing immigrants to work for less money. Neither side has done anything to punish employers who hire illegal immigrants. One side, lower taxes, which makes it more enticing to hire a wiggle and immigrants. The other side raises their taxes, which is an incentive to higher illegals we need a straight up law that is a high fine for illegal hiring.

There are many things in this country that need to be fixed wages housing jobs ect… but a good place to start
