$15 billion in stolen Bitcoin seized from Cambodia. But will the victims see any of their money returned?

Photo above - What, me worry? Former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, who ruled for 40 years. His eldest son Hun Manet has that job now. Dad didn't retire though. He's "president of the senate" . . .

If you had asked me to name where the biggest crypto or online scams take place, I would have automatically said Nigeria, or perhaps North Korea. The PDRK has a surprisingly sophisticated state affiliated fraud unit, right next door to their world's largest counterfeit currency factory.

The correct answer (biggest crypto fraudster) may turn out to be . . . Cambodia? (See link below).

I don’t follow Cambodia on a daily basis. Didn’t know who ran the place, until I checked with Wikipedia. Their flag and slogans and anthem suggest they worship a hereditary god-king, but in fact Cambodia has the worlds longest serving Prime Minister, who just connived to have his son succeed him. That’s something North Korea has been pulling for decades, too.

The Kingdom of Cambodia (Preah Reacheanachak Kampuchea) is evidently the epicenter of Asia’s romance and ransom bitcoin scams. Thousands of Americans have been fleeced of their life savings. Theoretically the DOJ has now recovered at least $15 billion of this. However, there is no procedure announced yet on how to apply for restitution. I imagine some people who were fleeced of their life savings reside in Canada, Australia, and the EU as well.

I’m always amazed (but not amused) whenever TV's Dr. Phil has another little old lady come on his show and talk about her overseas lover who is STILL having difficulty getting to the USA, despite the fact that she has repeatedly wired 6 figure sums to him. A curmudgeon could make the case that people this dumb deserve to be fleeced. But think of the poor Gen XYZ and millennials who will inherit zilch because their widowed moms were bored and lonely. Those kids should have spent more time with her if they wanted to secure their inheritance, I guess.

Kudos to Pam Bondi and Kash Patel. This is the sort of stuff we pay you for. And you have my okay in advance to sink any Cambodian speedboats bringing heroin and meth to the USA too. Cambodia is a major distributor. I doubt if the Prime Minister's kid has a navy that wants to take on our Aegis class guided missile cruisers.

I’m just sayin’ . . .

I’m leaning toward. Well that’s great! Bc bitcoin is literally fake anyway. Speculation regarding a unbacked no physical currency none tangible value from where?

@exchrist technically since Nixon all currencies are speculative. Fiat currency is literally just backed by government promise. If the government defaults, hyperinflation happens.

@basilfawlty89 that’s a very valid point. I’d say the value of the dollar (and most currency) is enforced at knife (gun) point.
Bullion(precise metals) was probably better, but far more volatile.I’d like to see a productivity based (GDP) evaluation paired with some asset appreciation evaluation. Valuing a currency from only one form of evaluation has proven itself unstable. Therefore to decouple the American economy’s value from war production and intimidation, certainly asset holdings productivity and humanitarian contributions might be combined to determine the implied value of both a nation and its currency. The addition of “honorable acts” might fix the entire Human condition.
Israel (and Hamas) might finally be held accountable (and face consequences) for their unending cruelty and violence, America might save some face, it does do a lot of humanitarian actions for the world, which is offset by never ending war! Indeed adding honor, “good deeds”, and humanitarian acts as considerations of a country and its currency might ameliorate the damage militarism has been self inflicting on humanity ad infinittum .

Perhaps my dream of a united earth and an allied humanity might finally be achieved! Minimal credit to DJT or any politician; ideally!
The new mantra?
One Country One citizen One workforce
One Work Force One citizen One Earth. I’ve been repeating this mantra beginning in 2007 and increasingly often and loudly since 2012.
A golden age for everyone!

@exchrist I'd recommend mutualism:

Read some of Kevin Carson's work.

Hey, it could have been worse... at least the Huns didn't continue the policies of Pol Pot.
Sounds like Kash Patel and Pam Bondi are making up numbers again. Or taking the number of coins and valuing them at all time highs to make it look more impressive.

No way this is bigger that the FTX fiasco.

Add to that cold war cliches

and then end it with giving your support for your government randomly murdering people which is what is happening in Venezuela.
