In The Meanwhile...
Erik S. Siebert, the ousted U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, was appointed by Trump to "investigate" Letitia James, the New York State attorney general, and James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director.
And by investigate, I mean find something to charge them with.
Eight months later, Siebert announced that his office failed to find any wrong doing on the part of James and Comey. So Trump fired him.
The White House sent an email late Monday announced that Trump is bypassing both a formal nomination and Senate confirmation, and appointing Lindsey Halligan as the new US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. He had her sworn in on Monday.
Trump called Ms. Halligan “a tough prosecutor.” However, what's lacking from her thin resume, is proof of any prosecutorial experience. She was, however, one of his personal attorneys, and prior to that, an insurance paper pusher in Florida.
Halligan first met Mr. Trump in November 2021 at an event at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.
She has taken part in only three civil matters in federal court: a defamation lawsuit Trump filed against CNN; an attempt to defend him against a 14th Amendment ballot challenge; and an effort to have the Justice Department freeze its classified documents investigation into Mr. Trump after it conducted a search of Mar-a-Lago.
All three legal maneuvers failed. What she did prove, however, is her willingness to falsify facts to satisfy her boss.
So, on she goes, with one mission: fabricate and lie, to make up Trumped up charges against James and Comey. Let's if Thune will check his balls out of their storage box, and do something about it.
