Chrystia Freeland for special envoy to Ukraine....wtf?

Seems Carney is stepping into some Trudeau style blunders. I mean sure she has some credentials that are not bad for a foreign policy position but the optics could not be worse when you know her family history.

She is the granddaughter of Mikhailo Chomiak. Her grandfather was a propagandist in West Ukraine (Poland at the time) who was a fascist and vocal supporter of Adolf Hitler and the local flavour of fascism in Ukraine the OUN-B. He also worked for German military intelligence...that German military intelligence.

In recent years she has posted pictures of herself decked out with OUN-B UPA banners the flag of a fascist militia that fought for the Waffen SS and still exists today.

She also is tight with the Canadian Ukrainian Congress which was also started by a member of the OUN-B.

This is not just an issue with Ukraine. Alot of Ukrainian Poles in Canada are not impressed with people like her because they are literally in Canada because they had to flee Ukraine from people like her grandfather.

However you feel about the conflict in Ukraine this is like as if Canada when picking their ambassadors to Germany and Italy went and picked some descendent of Goebbels or Mussolini.

And this after the Liberals under Trudeau that she also worked for gave a Waffen SS soldier a standing ovation in Parliament and called them a national hero in front of Zelensky who seems bizarrely pleased at the time.

@jshm2 The sad reality is we took in massive numbers of Banderites after WW2. Even straight up Waffen SS.

Now their grand kids are a big voting block.

It is no accident that the Banderite movement in Ukraine made a come back after US and Canadian meddling from 1991, after the Orange Revolution and the 2014 coup. Our countries where where they were given refuge after the war and relied on the rest of our population remaining ignorant for 80 years.
