Why on earth would people have voted for Donald trump?

I know Kamala Harris was seen as extreme on some sociopolitical positions but Donald trump is another extreme. Why vote at all if the choices for candidates were not great? I mean I didn’t vote because I don’t think most politicians care about the average person and I don’t think my vote counts anyway. The powers that be will put whoever they want in power I’m sure but my god Donald trump and his cabinet are an embarrassment for what America was supposed to stand for. Even my sister voted for Donald trump because she said he was lesser of two evils and Kamala Harris was too left wing for her. I’m disappointed that she would vote for trump buti I still love her to pieces. My sister is the daughter of immigrants but voted for a cabinet that doesn’t readily embrace immigrants. And for the record yes my family came to the United States legally decades ago. She is also sick of the transgender push and is pro life and thinks abortion should be canned with the exception of rape, sexual abuse/incest, and maternal death. She is becoming more conservative as she gets older. She thinks undocumented immigration needs to be gotten a handle on it but she doesn’t agree with how ICE and the trump administration are handing it. She doesn’t want her hard earned money to be taxed even more for someone to cut their dick off ( her words) . She voted for someone whose cabinet is repealing protections for people like me lgbtqia + and she thinks transgenderism is a mental illness. She calls the far left wing “ libtard”. I’m opposite to her in that I am moderately liberal whereas she’s moderately conservative. Well I didn’t see this coming. What can you do?

Like here the left (yes Democrats are centrists but I'll keep it simple). Didn't listen to the concerns and sneered at everyday working people, so a far right populist figure emerges and people hope in him, it is a lesson for parties to learn.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I'm what I call 'center-left', which means I'm a centrist but if I lose my balance and tip over onto the floor, I'll probably land on my left shoulder, not my right.

To your point about not having great choices of candidates to vote for, consider this.... The reason Trump got voted-in to the White House is NOT because Republicans put him there, it's because Democrats put him there.

The reason Dems put Trump into the Presidency twice is because they never cast a vote against him, which means Trump got there because Dems didn't vote at all, not because more Republicans voted for Trump.

I agree that Kamala Harris was a clone of Joe Biden and I didn't agree with their far left, open borders issues that her and Joe were pushing, but at the same time if the Dems had all voted for Harris instead of staying home and not voting at all, Trump would not be President today.

Rather than look for a good candidate before saying 'yes' to either of them, why not look as well at who you definitely DO NOT want to be President?

By NOT voting at all, you indirectly voted for Trump because you did nothing whatsoever to prevent Trump from becoming President.

People wanted someone to put the country and it's citizens first. Many are tired of the tail wagging the dog.
