On to the next crisis! The government shutdown. Do you want a fix that keeps DC in business until Oct 31, or Nov 21? Those are our only choices . . .

Photo above - would you prefer to have the next government shutdown this month, on Halloween, or at Thanksgiving?

The story thus far: America is $37 Trillion in debt. Republicans want to increase deficit, but create another shutdown showdown on November 21st. Democrats want to increase it the debt even more, and accelerate the next shutdown crisis to Halloween. All this is completely true. See link below.

Okay, my first priority – giving thanks that the Fed cut rates by ¼ point yesterday. I’m warming up the car right now to go house hunting (insert sarcasta-bang here). It’s also possible that the interest rate on my credit card will come down from 22.25% (national average for retail purchases) to an even 22.00%. Think of all things I can buy with THAT windfall. Chase Manhattan Bank, I’m looking at you! And by the way, did you finishing moving into your new Park Avenue headquarters yet? 60 stories high, which cost $3 billion.

There are no good guys in this mashup of govt shutdowns-fed funds-and wickedly expensive corporate palaces. Everything politicians do is calculated to up get votes in the next election cycle. That’s how we got $37 million in hock to China and Saudi Arabia in the first place. Everything Wall Street and too-big-to-fail banks do ends up draining our savings so that we can probably never buy a home.

I wish I could tell you that I had a solution, but unlike politicians for life in DC I’m not certain of anything. Anyway, here’s an experiment I’d like to try:

1 – insist on a government funding measure that covers a complete budget year. No more of this 3 or 4 weeks at a time $hit. Budget and operate normally. If you’re going to borrow money, tell us how much up front, and how much it’s going to cost us. Like a mortgage or car loan.

2 – let the next “too-big-to-fail” bank actually go down. Pay off those innocent depositors with FDIC insurance coverage, so they don’t lose a dime. But don’t bail out that bank. Don’t spend tax money bribing another bank to merge with it. Don't let the bank execs hang onto their lavish office suites. Just let potential buyers of that failed bank pay whatever the actual market value is. Crowdsource the solution.

I don’t think either of these scenarios will be a world-ending catastrophe, like the media is constantly claiming. The media should just tell the truth instead of taking sides. Stop hoodwinking us.

Stop buying stuff that we can’t afford, and allowing poorly run companies go out of business . . . these are hallowed American traditions.

I’m just sayin’ . . .

I want an immediate decrease in all government spending by fifty percent. Everything, except for the military, which will be decreased by twenty five percent..

Add to add icing to the cake.
Every government politician will receive an immediate withholding of all pay until they can find reductions.Bringing the federal budget into balance within 3 years.....

All frderal pay increases will be suspended for anyone making more than the national average of 50k

@dale74 could work but I wonder given military spending is the largest budget item might it be cut by 50% and everything else by 25% domestic spending & investment is far more useful than continued spending to prop up foreign “religious conflicts”
dale74 · M
@exchrist line item yes but military is only about 14%

https://usafacts.org/articles/how-much-does-the-us-spend-on-the-military/
exchrist · 36-40
@dale74 ah okay i was thinking it was close to 40% yea so trimming it to 8-10% of the budget would be good. I maintain the u.s could benefit from some domestic investment use all those military troops on domestic work projects that kind of thing. or wow America has a lot of red tape maybe the troops could cut some of that?
dale74 · M
@exchrist no you dont ballance a budget by spending more money on other things especially infrastructure. Ie 30 billion spent on high speed rail another 30 billion just allocated towards high speed rail last month. This is the same high speed rail. That was estimated to cost one hundred million dollars thirty years ago.And has still never seen a train.
exchrist · 36-40
@dale74 what do you think of a domestic program to pay half of the first two years of any associates or bachelors degree program of American citizens? We need more affordable education and less student debt
exchrist · 36-40
@dale74 yes balance the budget fix what we have then invest more? I maintain federal/national level projects are simply too big to work. Federal state partnerships or regional projects would best meet local area needs. Instead federal/national initiatives try to broadstroke everything as the same everywhere always. WTF you know?
dale74 · M
@exchrist i'd rather see that invested in electricians and plumbers and hvac technicians.
Currently, the average age for those industries is over 60...

But still no spending on other stuff until we have a balanced budget..

Especially not associate and bachelor's degrees.
For jobs that don't pay anything or are non existent. And if you're going to truly increase your pay with that degree. Then, you can either pay as you go or take out a loan. And pay it back
exchrist · 36-40
@dale74 definitely better technical and career training would be paramount
exchrist · 36-40
@dale74 so much knowledge will be lost when those 60+ers die
dale74 · M
@exchrist no, they still have the trades. And they still have the instructors. And if those people who are wanting those four year degrees and two year degrees would go and apply for an internship, the businesses will pay for their education in those three trades.

Yes, private businesses will pay for the education of unskilled employees to get those skills

@dale74 directionally correct. how about this:

reauthorize all spending programs when they expire, through new legislation and a congressional vote. no spending program may be authorized for more than 5 calendar years without reauthorization.

if a program exceeded it's funding authorization, a full hearing must be held, and detailed accounting, including investigation of waste, fraud and abuse.

@dale74 individuals have knowledge accumulated through experience every individual system has its own unique characteristics and quirks. If we don’t get moving many nuances might be lost

@dale74 in the case the individual is able to get employed to have an employer to pay for their needed education. The portion of the workforce that is aged out and unwilling to move on has been delaying that happening for generations. It needs some adjustment; given ongoing circumstances. In some cases the employer will pay to have the new hire trained but to bridge the gap might junior and senior year of high school include an associates degree? I received 12 college credits conducting my own medical research while in high school from sophomore to senior year that was $10k+ saved on college tuition
dale74 · M
@exchrist i tell you what why don't you do this because I know people in those industries?
Call 10 companies ask if they're hiring. And if hired, Will you train me?
I'm willing to do anything
Work wise for the company until I get my license.

I guarantee you, at least half those companies will say come on down. And fill out an application.

@dale74 I’m currently recovering from brain surgery; possibly for life. Awaiting lawsuit outcome and upon things coming to completion, I’ll pursue what’s next for me. For now I have to heal; two to three years at least
dale74 · M
@exchrist i'm not sure about your exact condition, but 2 to 3 years sounds excessive on recovery time. It's true. You may not ever make a hundred percent recovery...
exchrist · 36-40
@dale74 brain tumor removed after years trying to get adequate care. Looks like incompetence and a coverup by the guilty parties. I’ll be fine there are jobs I could work. I was working and got a college degree while I had the tumor so. if I get the outcome I deserve I won’t need to work.
dale74 · M
@exchrist so the outcome you want is permanent disability. So you can collect a check from people actually working for the rest of your life.Instead of contributing to the betterment of society
exchrist · 36-40
@dale74 the outcome I want is a settlement and legal victory I’m on disability now. I took out long term disability insurance from my government job a week prior to finally being diagnosed with the brain tumor though I’d been getting treatment and mris done for years. Idk it’s moving
dale74 · M
@exchrist what caused your brain tumor
exchrist · 36-40
@dale74 unknown probably a previous brain injury in 2003 that resulted in a cerebral hemorrhage
dale74 · M
@exchrist so who are you suing? And why is it their fault?Or are you just trying to get the biggest wallet to pay you some money.
exchrist · 36-40
@dale74 I cannot divulge much given ongoing litigation but the medical professionals involved for not doing their job negligence basically. And a probable coverup
