But what would have happened had he dropped out of the race, like Gary Hart did in 1988 after photos surfaced of himself with Donna Rice on the boat "Monkey Business"?

Here are the results of the Iowa Caucus from February 10th:

Next up was the New Hampshire primary on February 18th. Then the Maine caucus on February 22 and the South Dakota primary on February 25th.

On March 3rd there were primaries in Colorado, Georgia and Maryland with caucuses in Idaho, Minnesota, Utah, Washington and American Samoa.

Of the remaining four candidates that would have been left in the race, who do you think would have gotten the Democratic presidential nomination if Clinton dropped out right after his poor showing in Iowa?

And how do you think that nominee might have done against incumbant President George H. W. Bush and third party candidate H. Ross Perot?

Who might you think that nominee would have picked as a running mate? Al Gore or someone else?

What might a second Bush term have meant come 1996? Is Vice President Dan Quayle the presidential nominee? Who do the Democrats pick? And what of 2000? If Quayle or another Republican wins in 1996, Texas Gov. George W. Bush won't be the nominee.

And what of Perot? What if he stays in the race? Instead of dropping out and then coming back it in late (and getting 19% of the popular vote).
