California lawmakers pass bill to grant priority college admission for descendants of slavery.

Basically, California state lawmakers wants to subsidize the human rights abuses by the Confederacy.

Because there was no slavery in California, neither during or before the Civil War.

With the Compromise of 1850, California was admitted as a free state, meaning that slavery was prohibited.

But now lawmakers want to grant priority college admission for descendants of slavery - who couldn't be decendants of California slaveholders because the state has always outlawed slavery.

The only descendants of slavery living in California must be descendant of residents from states that pemitted slavery (mainly the Confederacy, although prior to the Civil War there were other states that permitted it as well).

California should send those states an invoice.

Furthemore, some descendants of slavery might very well be descendants of slave owners.

While addressing the evils of slaverly that still effect the U.S. today, California could do better.

Gov. Newsom might remind everyone that his state did not permit slavery from its very beginning. And if he signs this bill, he should make it clear that it's his state that is addressing an issue that former Confederate states never did and which led to California becoming a becon for black Americans escaping racial discrimination in the South.

But a better way would be creating a post-secondary education system that all state residents could ultilize.

California isn't its own country - it's part of the United States of America. We have a shared history. (I know you know this :)

Newsom is attempting to get out of state college students into his state because all colleges and universities are struggling (especially colleges who have DEI programs or departments)

Newsom is attempting to get out of state college students into his state...

Because like most states California charges a higher tutition for out of state students.

But treats them like a Californian for state income tax, auto registration fees, sales tax, etc.

@beckyromero That is correct. Universities and their states governing bodies are attempting to create new ways to get students in their doors to create revenue. I live in a university town and their enrollment is way down because of foreign students are not coming here.
