Since Kennedy (Democrat, naturally) founded it in 1961, USAID has supported extensive programs on:

Global health,

Food security,

Education,

and democratic development.

By doing this, it was addressing the root causes of instability and poverty, and promoted a more free, peaceful and prosperous world for 64 years.

Until Trump destroyed it.
