Can someone please explain Rachel Reeves’ economic thinking to me?

Personally I would have gone for 2p in the pound on income tax , it would have hit the higher payed harder.

No increase in National Insurance.

This would stimulate the economy. More entrepreneurship.
And not hit the lower payed.

Personally I agree with your approach. Yes certain papers would have a field day but it is nothing new. I'm aware of lots of smaller organisations which are really on the brink with the national insurance rises. Whilst I'm sure that wasn't the plan a lot of places in the voluntary sector have been hit quite hard e.g. I know one organisation that overnight had a £100k surplus (needed to reinvest) wiped to zero as the alternative was fewer paid staff.

The other more controversial item is fuel duty needs to go up. It has been frozen for far too long.
