I’m pretty sure we all want healthcare paid for by our taxes
Sadly, I don't think you're right. There are a number of people on SW who get very exercised when the word 'tax' is mentioned which shows that there are very many who are comfortably off and comfortable with other people being very sick for want of financial resource. They don't think ahead to the day when they can't work anymore, or are the unfortunate one to be struck down with an incurable, debilitating condition. Apparently, if you're against shared responsibility for providing healthcare, you can't be subject to the worst things that life can throw at you.

@FreddieUK IMO universal healthcare is an extension of altruism
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt Do you regard that as a good or a bad thing? Perhaps it's something you see as beyond politics because all human beings are so good they're never going allow the worst to happen to fellow human beings?
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@FreddieUK I regard altruism as an extension of the ancient Greeks “philos” (love of your fellow man ). That’s why Philadelphia is the city of brotherly love
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt I think that's excellent. Unfortunately, I don't see that working in places where there is no compulsory contribution towards healthcare.

@FreddieUK in democracies , the people get what they vote for
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt That's the truth. This is why education is so important and why when you get a regime which denies education in all its fullness, such as North Korea, Russia, China and sadly these days it looks like in parts of the USA, the hope for democracy to change anything is in vain.
Lest I be seen to be picking on other countries, I have seen the curriculum in English (not sure about the other countries of the UK) schools narrow down to remove critical thinking and bits of history, literature and the arts marginalised or removed altogether. It's dreadful.

@FreddieUK agreed 100% our critical thinking is slipping (by design )

@FreddieUK people don't agree on what's right. Good health and long life for the population don't impress Americans. Money and Early desths? Oh, yes! Good for them!

@FreddieUK oh I know that there are many people on SW (and they’re always Americans) who gloat over the fact that they can afford healthcare while others can’t. But I like to think they are a minority
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@wishforthenight healthcare is becoming a flex for sure
kodiac · 22-25, M
@Roundandroundwego Bla bla bla can you ever respond without trashing Americans?
kodiac · 22-25, M
@wishforthenight What little slice of paradise do you come from?Americans can afford health care because they work and don't expect someone else to pay for them

Roundandroundwego · 61-69
@kodiac most oppressive healthcare anywhere!
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Roundandroundwego he’s proposed cutting more than that to give money to the pentagon for defense in his BBB bill.
