You know, the funny thing is a lot of the issues in Southwest Asia and North Africa really is due to imperialism.
I'm not saying it used to be paradise on earth or something, but the between the British, French, Russians and Turks they carved up the region and started a lot of conflicts. Salafi Jihadism was sponsored by the British as was Zionism. Even Iran that was never colonized wasn't always a theocracy. Mossadegh was a good leader, but was removed by the US and the brutal regime of the Shah reinstated leading to the Mullah overthrowing him.

And the French...well, yeah, ask any Algerian the horrors they endured under the French.
