The eventual abandonment of the US Dollar as the instrument of global commercial Trade is actually in the works as we speak.

@SandWitch Only by BRICS' so far, there's signs it may be coming but it's not yet at a stage I'd define "in the works" personally. Europe's notoriously slow to react to international paradigm shifts. Maybe Japan, south Korea and other Asian countries are more likely to open the "dance"

What I mean by "in the works" is the strategic plan for the US Dollar's replacement for international Trade and Commerce, meaning what the new currency will be called and which country's economies (other than the USA) that new currency will be based on.

@SandWitch The problem is there's none currently that the rest of the world is willingly to adopt. Who's going to control this new currency and where is the central bank that emits it? BRICS don't want a western controlled currency (be it the dollar, euro, pound or even a hypothetical new currency) and western countries likewise won't accept a BRICS operated one.

I think we're more likely to move to a model in which there isn't a single reserve currency, which means the abandonment of the dollar will necessarily be slow. What's ironic is that if Americans didn't shoot at their own feet, considering all the above, nobody would be thinking of moving away from the USD.
