Yeah, the Bolsheviks called the Soviet Union "socialist." They also claimed it was a union of Republics. But was it? Of course not, they lied. Likewise, they lied about it being socialist.
@BohemianBabe The Kronshtadtskie matrosy quickly became disillusioned with communism. They realized it was lies and that the Bolsheviks they went to such efforts to help were evil and corrupt. What did they do as soon as they gained power? They took, and kept for themselves.
@emiliya Yes, the Bolsheviks weren't Leftists, they were Authoritarians who used left-wing imagery in their propaganda. The Fascists did the same thing. The Republicans do it now. Politicians lie. That's why it's important to have as much democratic power as possible. It's one of the reasons I'm a Socialist.

Nope. I've just presented facts. The USSR and Nazi Germany BOTH are the logical conclusions to socialism.
At one point, North Korea tried to refer to itself as a "republic." A lot of dictatorships in history tried to call themselves a "republic." Adolf Hitler, the most FAMOUS socialist of the 20th Century (just ahead of Josef Stalin, Pol Pot and Franklyn Delano Roosevelt) was actually DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED. So Nazi Germany would qualify as a republic.
Bottom line, I'm right and you're wrong. Simple as that.
@emiliya @emiliya Depends. The most authoritarian government of all time (SOMALIA) had almost no government at all. It was totally anarchist, run by warlords.
