Newly elected New York City mayor wants state-run grocery stores

In Russia, we had Гастроном (Gastronom), where people often had to wait in long lines and there were frequent food shortages and lack of variety. It was the Moscow and other city dwellers who ate well. The state-run grocery stores where I am from in southern Russia were very poor and were forced to send the agricultural produce to the major cities. Russia now has a variety of grocery stores to choose from, many of which continue to have cheap foods. Zohran Mamdani wants to send NYC back in time and turn it into an anti-American communist pit.

He also plans to spend $65 million on “gender-affirming care.”

Why can't we engage in private charity?
@emiliya We can, but poverty is a systemic issue. It requires a systemic solution. We can also pick up trash on the sidewalk, but pollution requires systemic change.

@BohemianBabe Change begins with us. Charity begins at home. The wealthy are willing to share some of their wealth, but they do not want to share all of it. Some of them, like my grandparents, worked very hard for it.

Socialism does nothing to help the poor. I say this as someone who has given to charity, to people with babies and young children. This is private money that I wanted to donate. I was not compelled by the state, who do all kinds of terrible things with our money.
@emiliya
The wealthy are willing to share some of their wealth, but they do not want to share all of it.

Nobody is saying they have to share all of it. If we raised taxes on the rich to pay for healthcare, free transportation, and UBI, the rich would still be rich. That's how huge economic inequality is.

I was not compelled by the state, who do all kinds of terrible things with our money.

I don't care. I want the state to force rich people to pay more so we can make the world a better place. Then I shall drink your yummy tears.

Yes, the state does terrible things, which is why it's important that we elect progressive politicians, then force them to do good things. Notice how America always does better under Democrats. Elections matter.

@BohemianBabe I have no tears to drink.

Why should transportation be free? I think it should be for children and for the elderly. I do not think it should be free for others. Raising taxes on the very wealthy and “super rich”, who are very good at hiding their money and putting it in offshore accounts, will not make it possible for all to have free transportation. This is naive. How do you know government would spend it on this? How do you know they could afford it? Things are more expensive than you think.

Is it fair for a rich person to pay for the healthcare of all patients? We need to take responsibility for what we do to our bodies and prioritize the children and the elderly, who are more helpless and vulnerable than we are. It would be a very good thing if we could all know a little more about medicine, wouldn't it? Why can we not empower ourselves more? Why do we have to be so dependent on the state? We can do more than we think we can. Much more.

Do you know what else saves money? Not allowing the country to be flooded with migrants, not allowing DEI, not funding transsexual nonsense, curtailing foreign aid, and teaching our children. They need to be better educated and taught responsibility and morality. When this happens, they grow up to be better people. You think the state has the solutions, when the solutions lie with us.
@emiliya Preach! 👏

@emiliya You're very welcome. I generally applaud truth and especially something as important as this. 🙂
@emiliya
Why should transportation be free?

Because it would make life easier for the workers.

Raising taxes on the very wealthy and “super rich”, who are very good at hiding their money and putting it in offshore accounts, will not make it possible for all to have free transportation.

Sure it would, we just need to crack down on people who do that. We need to elect progressive Democrats, like the Squad, who have talked about billionaires hiding their money in the Cayman Islands. If we keep electing establishment Liberals who pretend the problem doesn't exist, it'll never get solved.

Is it fair for a rich person to pay for the healthcare of all patients?

It wouldn't be a single rich person. We should raise taxes on the entire billionaire-class. We can also save money by cutting subsidies to mega corporations, funding to Israel, and the pentagon budget.

Why can we not empower ourselves more?

We can do both. This is like saying, why should we have police? Just learn self-defense tactics. Well, you can learn self-defense, but we should also have police.

Do you know what else saves money? Not allowing the country to be flooded with migrants, not allowing DEI, not funding transsexual nonsense, curtailing foreign aid, and teaching our children

Migrants contribute more than they take. They are less likely to commit crime, they pay more taxes than the billionaires, and they're more likely to have a job.

DEI doesn't cost anything.

Yes, not giving healthcare to trans people would save money. Not having social security would also save money. Just because something saves money, doesn't mean it's good. The goal should be to improve the lives of working-class people.

Foreign aid actually helps America. Less crime overseas means more global stability. It also means less mass migration movements. But because Republicans secretly want illegal immigration, they often cause global instability.

Yes, we should teach our children, but the Right wants to cut education funding because they want to keep the public stupid.

@BohemianBabe How do you redistribute billionaire wealth? Their wealth is tied up in assets. They do not have the “billionaire” check sent to them every month. The reality of your proposal is that those who are not billionaires, who do not have the means to hide what wealth they have managed to build, will be punished and subject to increased legal theft.
@emiliya Increase taxes on the rich, end laws allowing billionaires to hide their wealth, and cut subsidies to corporations unless they're co-ops. Also end funding to any countries that regularly commit war crimes, like Israel.
Essential services, like healthcare, should be nationalized the way the post office was nationalized. The wealth would be redistributed through social programs like free healthcare, transportation, and UBI.
emiliya · 22-25, F
@BohemianBabe What do they need to earn for you to increase their taxes?

You cannot end laws for billionaires to hide their wealth. Come on now. Am I in Wizard of Oz or Alice in Wonderland? You make me question whether I am in a hospital for the perpetually silly and ignorant.

Billionaires are not fools. They have means to hide their wealth and you cannot do a thing about it. The presidents and prime ministers cannot do anything either. It would require great international effort and compliance of other countries, countries that find the billionaires hiding their money to be very beneficial.

You know, money does not grow on trees. We have to earn it. We have to try to get to the top. What else is there to do?
