UK parliament votes for suicide bill

UK has now made it legal for doctors and a “panel of experts” to help adults who are expected to die in less than six months to commit suicide. It was a close vote. The first state-backed suicide may not be until 2029.

What are your thoughts on assisted suicide?

the last 6 months are probably filled with pain.

I think it is a prime example of "my body, my choice"

and it shouldn't take a panel of experts

@Pretzel It is not our pain to end.
@emiliya Yes, it is

@emiliya that is a common belief - there is a belief that it is only the "higher power" that can end a life.

and for those that believe that I would not force my belief of them

but I demand the same consideration

@Pretzel What about nature? Why, if a person is so ill they are expected to die within a six-month period, should nature not have the final say?

You will say that pain is the reason. We are all in pain. How can pain be the reason? Why can't they do it without asking their doctor to take their life?

Their families should be with them, comforting them and enjoying the remaining times they have left. I was a medical student and my parents are dead. I have seen people laugh and smile and feel and know even when they are on the verge of death. Those who take their lives are committing suicide, regardless of how they attempt to justify it. It is a depression, a defeat, and a coward's way out.

@emiliya you are merely giving me your opinion.

yours...no better than mine.

@Pretzel We are all giving our opinions.

@emiliya agreed
@emiliya Does it give you pleasure to imagine people spending their last days in hopeless pain? I sincerely hope you're not in the medical profession.

@LeopoldBloom No.

I was in the profession when I was a medical student, and could be again if I returned to finish my degree.
