California Gov. Gavin Newsom's Address Yesterday Is the First Step That May Propel Him Into the Presidency. Here's His Entire Address.

[media=https://youtu.be/4Icqfuybk84]

Anyone who has followed my posts, knows that in the past I have not been kind to California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Whether it be his handling of Covid and his visit to the French Laundry restaurant or his lackluster unneccessary debate with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

But sometimes crisis events bring out the best in people, helping them find nerves of steel and leadership qualities that many doubted they had. Whether it be President John Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crises or New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorists attacks in 2001 (try to remember Giuliani before he got entangled with Trump).

It's too early to determine whether showing some spine against Il Duce will propel Newsom into the presidency in 2028.

Newsom certainly wants to run for president. He will be a formidable candidate in the 2028 Democrat primaries if Vice President Kamala Harris declines to make another run for the White House (yes, she is still my #1 choice).

Who else is in the mix at this point?

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) would be better positioned to run for the U.S. Senate, challenging Democrat leader Chuck Schumer if he runs for re-election. AOC would be a shoe-in if Schumer retires and would be in a position to earn the needed foreign policy chops if she makes a run for the White House in the 1930s.

Former United States Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg's popularity will wane. He's out of any office right now, elected or appointed. He didn't do well in 2020 and there's no reason to expect him to do any better should he make a run in 2028.

U.S. Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) name is being brought up for click-bait by political writers. He will at this point be lucky to win a Democrat primary for re-election to the Senate in 2028. He is more like to try a party switch in what will ultimately be a failed attempt at re-election.

Governors JB Pritzker (IL), Josh Shapiro (PA), Kathy Hochul (NY), Gretchen Whitmer (MI) could have their Newsom moments if Trump is foolish enough to give them the opportunity.

Right now Newsom has been given a free platform by Trump's follies to re-introduce himself to Democrat primary voters around the country. Those primary voters have been yearning for someone to take on Trump and his fascist policies.
