If some of the tactics and ideas feel familiar too you... chances are that you are living in the U.S.A. right now.

The thing that surprises me the most about this is that people seem shocked that they are supported by the CDU. I mean they honestly are not that different and AFD was founded by members of the CDU.

Nobody should be surprised by this. I mean shit the leadership of the CDU described the genocide in Gaza as a "theory" they do not believe in. Not exactly the kind of people you rely on for the moral high ground.

I also think there is a certain amount of cherry picking statements made by the fringe of the AFD to try and create a false distinction between the "good" and "bad" right wing in Germany. But many of those statements were made by people who are not actually in the leadership of the party.

I don't think they are...

They might be closely related, ideologically, because they both occupy the right wing of the spectrum. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bundestag) ... But the reason why members of the CDU founded the AfD is because they didn't agree with CDU policy, which made them have enough differences to start their own party. Before the AfD... what was really there for those with more far-right ideas?

I mean shit the leadership of the CDU described the genocide in Gaza as a "theory" they do not believe in.

Like so many parties... 🤷‍♂. The broad consensus about this toppic, has only been really growing over the last couple of months.

What does this even mean?
