RFK Jr’s voice

No—it’s not normal.

Kennedy has a neurological condition known as spasmodic dysphonia, a type of laryngeal dystonia that results in spasms in the muscles of the vocal folds.

This disorder affects approximately one half million Americans, though researchers have yet to find its cause. Some evidence suggests that it may be linked to the basal ganglia, a part of the brain that controls movements. And Kennedy’s long history of illicit drug abuse may be a contributing factor.

Currently, there’s no cure for SD, but patients can be treated with Botox injections, voice therapy and a surgical operation known as thyroplasty.

There’s also an option called selective laryngeal adductor denervation-reinnervation (SLAD-R), a surgery that disconnects and reconnects nerves between the brain and vocal cords.

Overall, it’s a lifelong condition, meaning patients like Kennedy have to learn how to manage symptoms through self-care, counseling and support groups.

And—no—there is absolutely no connections to vaccines or autism!
