Trump's been claiming that he destroyed ISIS, and those who have American blood on their hands, will not go unpunished.
On Wednesday, Trump met with the new Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa. The latter ascended to the Syrian Presidency, following Assad's ouster. al-Sharaa's resume includes a 5-year stint in a US jail in Iraq, as an Al-Qaeda fighter. When he was released, he joined Al-Nusra, an Islamist military group, specializing in suicide bombings, and financed by Saudi, Emirates and Qatar.
He got promoted, or promoted himself to ISIS, but this must part of the ISIS that Trump did not destroy.
Assad should have been removed, that's for sure, and I believe in turning a new leaf, but I would not turn over control of the Levant to Turkey, but Trump be Trump and corruption be corruption.
On this way to Qatar, from Saudi Arabia, speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump says the new Syrian leader is “young, attractive guy. Tough guy. Strong past. Very strong past. Fighter.” “He’s got a real shot at holding it together,” Trump says. “I spoke with President Erdogan, who is very friendly with him. He feels he’s got a shot of doing a good job. It’s a torn-up country.”
Of course part of that past included killing US troops, civilians, women, children, orchestrating suicide bombings, and we had a $10M bounty on his head.
The people of Syria should have sanctions imposed on them lifted, but...
Oh, and the tragedy of it all, is that Trump had to endure a humiliating reception upon landing in Qatar, using a nearly 40-year old plane. Not even one gold plated toiler in sight. He was too embarrassed taking the Qatari Emir on a tour of Air Force One.
