What is the point in blocking someone you politically disagree with?

I like debate and I want to test my opinions against those who have different backgrounds and perspectives. It would be boring if everyone on my friend list always agreed with me. It seems ironic that some of the same people who accuse others of living in an echo chamber are the first to block. I'm not abusive and mild piss-taking is allowed on the internet.

An interesting question - in general I am very opposed to blocking over political disagreements. I mean how can we possibly come together as a country if we can't even talk to each other? My very best friend, my college roommate are total opposites on the political spectrum, but we're still best friends. That being said, I have blocked someone on Facebook, and it's not just an internet acquaintance, but someone who lives in my community that I actually see from time to time. Yes we are opposites politically, but she was hostile about it - combined with overacting when she doesn't even read a whole post that she's commenting on, that sort of thing. I just couldn't take her anymore.
