All flying instructors are the pilot in command of the aircraft at ALL times during a training mission, not the student at the controls. To not take control to take evasive action is a dereliction of duty on his part.
In my opinion, what @ididntknow is telling us is indeed fake news because I also believe the instructor himself didn't have any situational awareness whatsoever of what was going on in the moment because he was also dealing with 4 other crew members who were aboard that helicopter of which HE was the pilot in command of.

..then why didn't her 'male' instructor/copilot override her inactions to avoid the collision? This is not about her, this accident is actually about him.
Don't forget, she was HIS student, he was not HER student!

@swirlie Well, that is a valid point. I'm not entirely sure how the controls work in the Blackhawk. Did he have the ability to override them? If he did, then as the instructor, he definitely should have taken control.

@Jokersswild last second? Yeah that explains it. She was told multiple times.

The Blackhawk is a two-pilot aircraft that is designed to be flown at all times with 2 pilots at the controls, not just one. In addition to that, a crew chief is always present to provide additional situational awareness to the pilots. In their case, they had a total of 6 on board, 3 of which were student pilots taking turns flying with the instructor who was occupying his own pilot's seat at all times.

No idea whether this is fake or not. Where's it come from?
