Temu ad spending on Google drops to zero. Consumers saved from billions in frauds and scams? Yay, Trump . . .

Photo above - actual photo of a Temu warehouse. Will Trump's tariffs bring good jobs like these back to America? One can only hope.

“Shop like a billionaire”. That was Temu’s hilarious super bowl ad tagline. Items begin at just 99 cents. Actual size of merchandise may be smaller than pictured in promotions. Yes you CAN return stuff, but you have to pay for shipping back to China. Who wouldn’t jump at a deal like that?

Temu formerly accounted for a whopping 20% of Google ad impressions. (see link below). Their number one advertiser. Cowabunga! No wonder Jeff Bezos could afford to buy that billionaire yacht, then send fiancé Lauren Sanchez into space while he had a boy's night out without her. (Just to be fair, I have no idea where Jeff went, or what he did, or who he did it with while Lauren and her besties were cavorting in space). That’s a LOT of money just to send your girlfriend out of town, Jeff.

Why did Temu slam on the brakes, and cut their ad spending to zero? Evidently it was Trump’s 145% tariff on packages shipped from China to the US. Hmmm . . . that does sound high. Trump probably could have started with 99% and waited to see what happened. The optics would have been better. Once you hit 100% tariffs, you look unhinged. Like Biden and Kamala did with their kooky plan to tax Chinese EVs at 100%. Evidently ALL presidents are told by their advisors that they can pull stuff like this.

Although I’m not a fan of 100% tariffs, I do like being saved from a never endling onslaught of “chicken drumstick pillows” and inflatable hot tubs the size of a car tire. These are actual Temu offers . . . or at least they were until Temu took a step back to consider their next move. But even if Temu completely disappears from planet Earth (and it won’t - Europe, Canada, and Australia love cheap stuff too) I don’t expect this will result in the rebirth of the golden age American manufacturing. How many chicken leg pillows and P215/75R15 size hot tubs does America actually need?

I’m just sayin’ . . .

As a Chinese web site shopper as far back as pre Covid I have to say I have yet to have a problem with temu. Door to door in a week on average..Of course, I take sensible precautions not to expose my main account..😷
It is interesting how Chinese sites get this kind of coverage but omit the fact that buying stuff online on Walmart.com has exactly the same issues with Temu.

Random sellers with no quality control.

What might make this mess interesting is Temu recently started taking on Canadian sellers so this could shaft small business vendors here too.

There will be many economic consequences of DJTs non free trade policies. Its no suprise that the candidate that refused to accept reality (really no presidential canfidate "won" and a runoff election, as required by law has not been conducted) so while "King Trump"and his billionaire buddies\henchmen disassembly American safeguards and institutions, reducing America's government and economy into blatant nepotism oligarchy and intimidation tactics. We the people are left to foot the bill.
Selective enforcement and croneyism disguised as a meritocracy. The old boys club of early 20th century Capitalism had nearly been escaped. Now back into "white male dominated fiscal policy"
As we rush into Russain style economics and mob tactic enforcement.
Good luck to us all.

@wildbill83 no one complained bc no tariffs were enacted until trump. Presidents had that authority but never had the need to use it. Now suddenly its required to ensure free trade? Maybe recipricol tarriffs are, but usually tarriffs placed on the u.s. were initiated for some other, potentially, legitimate geopolitical reason?

@wildbill83 my largest concern in all of the 21st century is our dependance on policies from early 1900s and prior.
The situation is different now. It is time to modernize.
Therefore candidates under retirement age is neccessary.

wrong again... there are very few president that haven't used tariffs, especially in the last 100 years.

Why would they need google ads? Temu comes standard on every Andriod phone and half of Americans already have the app downloaded.
