Harvard President Stands Up Against Trump

Harvard University on Monday rejected demands from the Trump administration as it threatens the school’s federal funding as part of a broader clampdown on higher education. The university said that while it is and will continue to engage in reforms, those changes should not be mandated by Washington.

“No government — regardless of which party is in power — should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue,” wrote President Alan Garber.
In response, the administration said it would freeze $2.2 billion in multi year grants to Harvard, along with a $60 million contract.

I happen to agree with Harvard but the same time I no entity including the government has to spend money on anything it doesn't agree with. Previous administrations have withheld funds frrom public universities for a lot of different disagreements. So I Harvard can lose funding standing it's ground in fact it shows a great deal of integrity, but should they cave that makes the money more important than the issue. That means their position is either for sale or a virtue signal.

@marybmom education risks funding your opponent in any argument that's not settled. It has no place in a fascist war loving nation. Peace has no place. Funding peace would never happen in the USA! Americans know it's not what you must do - and you don't agree with peace!

@Roundandroundwego what peace are you talking about I'm talking about a college seeking money from an organization they openly disagree with. The Biden administration withheld funding over trans policies and I support that too. In short don't fund what you don't agree with. You're weighing the issues not the funding. Would you want federal funding paying for studies in how strong 2 parent heterosexual families are. I have the feeling you would be 100% in favor of cutting that funding unless it was trump cutting it.
