The end of western democracies ?

So as the US stock market starts to weaken, is this the end for the strong dollar ?
With the end of free trade world wide is that the end of world economic growth ?
With the end of strategic alliance across the Atlantic is that the end of world peace ?
With the birth of a new great depression is that the start of runaway global warming ?

These things are structural changes in the world order that will haunt us forever unless soultions can be found and I see nothing in the current situaiton to give us hope of a brighter future - the attitude of the world has to change before thing can get better. The attitude of the world is not changing, positions are just becoming more entrenched and hostility is rising. How can we the people stop this ?

In a world dominated by democracies - how are we letting dicatatorship rise and triumph again ?
In a world of shrinking resource and overcrowding of habitable lands, how can democracies based upon continued economic and personnal wealth growth even survive ?
This looks like its very much the end - sad to say - and we let it happen on our watch.

Sorry to sound pessimistic but "united we stand, divided we fall."

Yep another big jolt lower today. Thats even less money available for the development of new technologies to compete against the very industrial giants Trump is trying to keep away by using tarfiffs. Trump obvious paid attentio to lessons unelarnt when he did his project management studies (at infant school).

@Captain While Marco Rubio speaking at a NATO heads meeting, says the fall of shares values everywhere is a good thing because according to him, industries are using manufacturing methods bad for America.

No I don't know what he means by that. Does he? Modern methods perhaps? Systems involving multiple international movements of materials or components, perhaps?

Is he an industrialist, economist, chartered scientist / engineer, experienced company-law barrister or accountant, shipping-lines director, major retailer?

None of those: BA in politics, Uni. of Florida; Doctorate of Law, Miami; career-politician since.

@ArishMell Americas way of competing agauinst asias lower pay rates was to be mechanisation. Without the finance afforded by high p/e ratios they will no longer be able to afford that mechanisation. Trumps politics of envy will derail the economy and he will be out. competerd by China and India - its amazing to me that at the moment Vietnam is such a big issue. India will be massive and it will happen. You can t be in a country of 350 million and expect to be far and away the most powerful nation in the world. Th etoruble is he will drag us down with him (infact ahead of team Trumps USA)

@Captain you see where OPEC has decided to introduce more crude into the market.
Prices were already on the way down for a while now, still haven’t seen it affecting prices at the pump.
Now it’s like they are trying to put the squeeze on west Texas crude. Soon some hard choices we have too be made; profits or employment.
Who your money on?

@Briggett I wouldn't like to call the oil market. Like gold under trump they were both affected by his suddent statements on twitter which usually came with no warning whatsoever. I suspect some trump investors were making big bucks on the trump volatility game. However I think Trump will want the US to be self sufficient and sell oil abroad as its easy profit, so he will want to dril baby drill as hes said. Just watch out for the volatility. This drop in the stock markets cold cause a short term low but i think its more likely a long term low. The mans a low unto himself. He oculd change everything tomorrow. Ive got my money on gold. The stock market is crashing, the dollar must follow. I could be worng.

@Captain something to remember about the market; bulls makes money, bears makes and pigs slaughtered. There’s a little bit for all to be had or have.

@Briggett Well yes this weeks trade was definitely shoe=rt nasdaq and I held it last week but sold out and didnt go back in - I'll be looking at Monday with interest.

@Captain You have seen anything yet wait until the framers start to complain about not being able to sell their products and getting locked out of the market for a second time until this president.
Right now it’s all fun and games until they start look for government for hand outs to pay bills and plant this year’s crops, it will be just like the last time.
