The real sad thing is many warned us of exactly this when trump nominated the “JV squad”(Hegseth, Gabbard, Waltz, Vance), but when it came time to vote, coward republicans succumbed rather than face a barrage of mean tweets and death threats from the MAGA thugs.
@FreddieUK Already happening across the USA…

@KunsanVeteran I think that's good in a way. It shows that people aren't just being passive.
@FreddieUK No doubt!

Another aspect of this the officials concerned seem not to realise is that although Signal is an American company and its software is more secure than conventional chat-sites, no social-media service is entirely safe. Even "Dark Web" conversations have been cracked, usually in criminal investigations.

Hostile states like Russia, China and N. Korea will be constantly probing for weaknesses in the software; but also weaknesses in their users. It was human error but not within Signal that a journalist was invited to the discussion, after all. It was human wrong-doing that published the meeting Minutes - journalists of that calibre ought know when not to publish! Nevertheless those countries also employ very highly-skilled IT professionals in their intelligence services, and one of North Korea's main "industries" is cyber-crime and spying.

Perhaps discussions of such sensitive nature should never be on any publicly-accessible messaging or social-media site, encryption or not. The safest way may well still be face-to-face in a secure room, even if it means some delegates have to travel long distances to attend.

It is of course for the US Government itself to establish what actually happened there, and to work to prevent repeats; but if I were conducting an enquiry into such a lapse I would want to know what if any second-level precautions are taken to trap people's mistakes before they can do any harm.

People do slip, misjudge, misread... but a properly-designed system should contain error-traps to prevent consequent damage as far as possible. E.g., by simply taking a second look at who is attending what meeting, and why!

@Khenpal1 Hmmm... Is this one of those things that carries on without apparent problems till it goes to rats then everyone sees the problem but wants to blame everyone else, then? Plenty of that about in the world.

Let's hope they've learnt their lesson.

@ArishMell Only way they learn is by loosing their jobs.

Honestly they're so far up trump's booty hole and sniffing it that we could have a terrorist attack cos of Pete's decisions and Trump's lies, he still wouldn't be held accountable. They'd blame it on Biden.
@SatanBurger …or Hillary’s emails, or Hunter’s laptop…
WalksWith · 56-60, F
The US is no longer in a constitutional crisis, we are seeing a constitutional collapse.
@WalksWith And while all eyes and ears are focused on this Signal chat group, the tRUMP misadministration scrambles to screw veterans, educators, public health officials, military families, retirees on Social Security, first time home buyers, the unemployed and under employed, the homeless, first responders, students at all levels, legal immigrants, etc.

All the while stabbing the MAGAs who voted for them in the back and cutting taxes for billionaires!

Nice distraction for the felon's administration!

Pete will be around as long as he willing to use a hatchet man. Once he falls out of favor he’ll just another footnote in history.
@Briggett Oh, he’s in line to walk the plank for sure…but so are Marco, Pam, Kash, RFK, Jr, Vance, etc.

It’s just a question of who’s next and then who’s the next scapegoat up?
Briggett · T
@KunsanVeteran check Vegas odds on who’s next and place your bet(s)! Because somebody’s getting voted off the island on a slow news day soon if some of the current issues don’t die down or off the scene.
@Briggett Well, if you followed all that illegal chat room had to say, you’ll see that Vance disagreed openly with tRUMP and announced it (probably never guessing it would get out as widely and as quickly as it did). Now the whole world knows that he contradicted Demented Donnie—so I’m betting that jumped him pretty far up the line…

These people are all on drugs and alcohol.
@TheShanachie Exactly. And all of that on top of their preexisting mental illnesses…

@jshm2 He should be held to the same standard. Perhaps with an even greater penalty due to his elected office.
