Plenty of people claim that but literally nobody has been able to point to specific statements to back that up. It is merely repeated and passed around and assumed true in western media.

Now to say both Ukraine and Slavic Russians originated from the same people is just objectively true. Both originated from the same group around where modern day Kiev is located.

And historically over the last 1000 years the number of years Ukraine has existed as a separate nation can be counted in decades. All of this is relevant. Pretending otherwise is dishonest. Pretending that doesn't impact the culture, history and politics of both countries is childish.

There is also the issue that the last "independent" Ukraine before the current version was a nazi puppet state and is idolized by the current state.

That also cannot be ignored.


And Trump is copying people like Andrew Jackson, not Putin.

Moscow and Kiev are both older than both the USA and Canada.

Hell they are older than the European colonies of North America. Pretending that American politics matter to them is American obsession with being the centre of attention. Nothing more.

Aping Putin's propaganda perhaps, but building up to an invasion? I doubt that very much.

Anyway, when was Canada a US "state"?
