Romania bans Georgescu from presidential election

The central election authority in Romania has banned the popular Călin Georgescu from taking part in presidential election in May. Romania annulled the presidential election in December 2024, after Georgescu won the first round. He is seeking to appeal the ban.

The authorities in Romania are plagued by a hatred of Russia. Are Hungary and Serbia the only sane countries in Europe?

The leadership in Hungary seems to have forgotten the 1956 Hungarian popular uprising that was cruelly crushed by Soviet tanks rolling into Budapest. I doubt that the people of Hungary have forgotten.

Neither have the other former Soviet satellites in eastern Europe.

Fortunately for Serbia, Tito was not a Soviet puppet, much to Moscow's displeasure.

@Thinkerbell Indians go to US to make money. US is the place for people who want to make money, more than they need to get by.

I don't think I will bother asking your questions. Putin is not trying to recreate Russian Empire or reabsorb nations. He went into Ukraine after US helped to oust a Russian friend. They helped to organize mass protests and stir violent civil unrest in Ukraine. If it were not for American interference, there would be no war. Some Ukrainians may be inclined to war with Russia; it doesn't matter if they don't have the money and weapons to. They get money and weapons from US. Why should US guide other nations into war with their enemy?

@Thinkerbell USSR has been dead for most of your life. Why do you still think about it?

Hopefully Hungary and Serbia are NOT the last sane countries in Europe. Hey, Emiliya. I'm Mandy. PM me please. I'd like to be friends. 😀
@BlackPetals So you're also a Russian apologist?
Good. Authoritarians should be banned from holding public office.
If you're against democracy, you shouldn't be allowed to participate in democracy.
@emiliya
Let us assume a majority of people want to reject it; you are preventing democracy if you deny their wish.

Yes, it's the paradox of democracy. In order to preserve democracy, we have to hold on to it even if the majority of people reject it.
Which is fine by me. If you're against democracy, welp, you should accept having your vote ignored.

@BohemianBabe There is no democracy if you deny democracy to “preserve” democracy. It is not a paradox; it is a fable, a fallacy, something not worth the time of day. We are either in or out, all or nothing.
@emiliya So we don't have a democracy unless children are allowed to vote? How about animals?

If this is allowed to happen in Romania, there is nothing to stop Europe doing it everywhere, don’t like the candidate, smear them, get rid, have who they want, not who the people want, that’s what you call, EU democracy
Cierzo · M
JD Vance was right, the enemy of Europe is inside. Unless we do not get rid of EU burocrats, and their minions like that 'election authority' in Romania, Europe will sink more into well-deserves irrelevance, poverty and violence.

It is truly sad when un-elected officials decide who can or can not run to be president.

That’s EU democracy for you, pick who we want, or we’ll pick them for you
They eat cats in Hungary and Serbia.
@deadinternet They eat cows in America.
