No, not exactly Trump and Putin.
What you're actually referring to is the Trump-MAGA Party pairing itself up with the traditional Republican Party of America as being a modern day Hitler and Mussolini arrangement.
Back in 1933, Hitler managed to pair-up his NAZI Labor Party with Mussolini's Socialist Party. The word 'NAZI' is a German acronym which means Socialist Labor Party in the German language.
Hitler and Mussolini were both fascists but the difference between the two was that Mussolini was the populace Leader of the much-loved Italian Socialist Party, whereas Hitler was the Leader of a Socialist Racist Party, but which was operated under the guise of a not well known Labor Party movement in Germany who represented non-unionized factory workers and farmers.
Hitler got into a friendship with Mussolini for the express purpose of piggybacking Hitler's NAZI Party on the back of Mussolini's popularity because Hitler himself was a virtual unknown in Germany for the most part, because most Germans did not have a social relationship with factory workers and farmers.
Trump's MAGA Party did exactly the same thing to the Republican Party whereby Trump piggybacked his extreme right-wing agenda on the back of the 'center right' Republican Party's populism ticket and in so doing, called himself and his MAGA Party "Republicans".
In that regard, Trump hijacked America's Republican Party no different than Hitler hijacked Mussolini's popular Socialist Party among Europeans.
