Bending boats has consequences.

The Commanding Officer of the USS Truman aircraft carrier has been relieved of command after he bent the boat by using his green side to hit a merchant ship's red side. For those who are not aware of the lights on ships and airplanes there is a red light on the left (port) side and a green light on the starboard (right) side. If you can see the other ship's green light that means you have the right of way. If you see the other ship's red light then the other ship has the right of way. The merchant ship clearly had the right of way and to top it off the Truman was operating without its traffic avoidance signal in very busy waters. I guess the naval captain's dreams of being an admiral disappeared when the boat first began to bend.

Hmm. Possibly the same captain that was trying to get a lighthouse to yield the right if way.

Lol. Thanks for BC. There's a whole story that goes with my reply. The punch line was "Negative captain we are a lighthouse" 🤣

@Thinkerbell It's most likely the same. The lighthouse operator insisting the captain adjust his course and the captain infuriated clueless he is speaking to a lighthouse operator?

@Gibbon

Yep. 🤭

@Thinkerbell Lol. All my description and I left out the best part the captain insisting the lighthouse operator change course. I'm really uncertain that it's a joke or really happened. It's even more hilarious if it's real. 🤣

It's doubtful if the Captain was even on the bridge.

@Diotrephes According to the experts because it was such close quarters there is a good possibility that the AC carrier had a full compliment of crew on the bridge and around the ship. When there is an incident like that the captain is the man responsible. He should have known who was competent to steer the ship and obey the orders for heavy traffic areas. If not he was incompetent and should have been fired anyways.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955 Of course the Captain is always responsible. But the story was written as if he, himself, was steering the ship. The question is why didn't the ships communicate with each other when they were miles apart? They both had radar and radios. Heck, even a guy on the street would have had sense enough to do that. It seems that the whole bridge crew were incompetent.

@Diotrephes We have no idea where he was or why the ship was running illegally. The fact is that HE was responsible for it. He was fired for it and that is a very very good thing. The whole idea of Aircraft Carriers is obsolete now anyways. One good hypersonic missile and the boat and all its planes and most of it crew will be food for the fishes. The US really has to re think its military strategy. WWII is over and the US/NATO was summarily trounced in Ukraine.
