Musk’s Tesla has silenced its critics in China and America— by suing its own customers

she was sitting in the passenger seat of her Tesla Model 3 when she said she heard her father’s panicked voice: The brakes don’t work! Approaching a red light, her father swerved around two cars before plowing into an SUV and a sedan and crashing into a large concrete barrier.

Tesla has pioneered an aggressive legal strategy and leveraged the patronage of powerful leaders in China’s ruling Communist Party to silence critics

Stunned, she gazed at the deflating airbag in front of her. She could never have imagined what was to come: Tesla sued her for defamation for complaining publicly about the car’s brakes — and won. A Chinese court ordered Zhang to pay more than $23,000 in damages and publicly apologize to the $1.1 trillion company.

The USA cannot determine a foreign country's legal cases, of course, but has the American diplomatic service complained about the the basic injustice by pointing out that this is an American suing a Chinese national in her, not his country, for an engineering fault in a car his company designed in the USA?

If not this sets a dangerous precedence, for although Musk is unlikely to succeed in such a claim in the USA or any European nation, it might not stop him trying.

He might also reflect he is showing himself internationally yet again just how cruel, ruthless and selfish he is.

In 2019, the Chinese authorities threatened the general manager of the Houston Rockets basketball team after he Tweeted support of dissidents in Hong Kong. The Chinese government also threatened English soccer team Arsenal after their German international Mesut Özil shared support of the Uighurs, a largely Muslim minority in the region of Xinjiang. Özil was subsequently dropped by Arsenal and disappeared from English football. He's now playing for İstanbul Başakşehir Futbol Kulübü in Turkey. It seems like Musk has learned a thing or two from Communist authoritarianism.

Musk wants to run the Department of Transportation
Missy Cummings, a senior safety adviser at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. “I’ve lost count of the number of investigations that are underway with Tesla. They will all be gone.”Investigations into companies like Tesla can be shut down overnight by the new leaders of agencies.

One day, after this national nightmare has passed, we will be allowed to have high quality BYD evs in the US.

They are nice rides and quite reasonably priced.
robertsnj · 56-60, M
that is really sad. she should have the right to warn others of a lethal danger in how the EV performes.
@robertsnj Absolutely!

Can you provide details to enable me to research this case. I have a feeling that Tesla is not what you have portrayed. China is also not what you are pitching to us as a third rate shitty country. There are some 6000 American companies in China getting their products - all American brands - manufactured there for the US market. All my power tools (Milwaukee, Black & Decker, DeWalt, etc) work perfectly and they are all made in China.

Tesla has sued Chinese customers and journalists — and won almost every time
As concerns mount about eroding checks and balances in the U.S., Tesla’s record in China shows how it has thrived in a system where regulators, the courts and media all answer to the ruling Communist Party.

@KunsanVeteran it would be nice if BYD was allowed to be sold in the USA (although Biden blocked it not Trump) and if CATL just did not sell batteries to Tesla going forward
