Europe to boot US out of NATO?

Donald Trump's announcement of the start of negotiations on Ukraine with Putin in a phone call sent shockwaves through European capitals. Any settlement in Ukraine will have ramifications for Europe's own security. France, Germany and Spain insisted that any peace deal in Ukraine could not be achieved without the involvement of European partners.

US defense chief, Hegseth, said it was Europe's responsibility to stop the Russian "war machine". Ukraine's dream of returning to its pre-2014 borders was an "illusionary goal" – and that Kyiv's wish for NATO membership was "not realistic".

This is payback time for disrespecting and ripping off the USA.

I don’t think NATO can afford to lose the USA. They might be bent out of shape cause Trump wants them to pay their fair share and stop always relying upon America for security.

@specman the second they kick us out of NATO they better all have standing armies. Otherwise Russia’s border will be to the eastern Atlantic Ocean.

For the record, no Nation is allowed to be "kicked out" of NATO by a majority of other member Nations. For the USA to leave NATO, they could only leave of their own volition and no member Nation can force another member Nation to leave, even if they don't pay-up what they owe.

@swirlie under the article 5 it does not say that each country must fight it only states that the other countries will come to their aid. So if the other countries don’t start paying their fair share then maybe the US should just give them a couple of armored vehicles!

@AthrillatheHunt Nearly all of then DO have standing armies (and most intelligent people know that.) But wasn't it the USA that said it never would?

@ffony the armies that they have are few and somewhat low tech. They don’t have enough people in their army to really fight a medium size war

@specman Go back to sleep 😄. Whoever starts a war anywhere quickly finds out what the've bitten on. Look around at what's happening. Remember Vietnam? There are never winners in any human sense.

@ffony you said the euro nations did have armies. My assertion is that they are incapable of defending their countries . They have proven capable of raping women while serving as peace keeping troops though

@AthrillatheHunt Back in the late 90's I worked at a hotel restaurant that was also linked to a convention center banquet hall. Many workers there were refugees from Bosnia, the women were always talking about how barbaric the NATO soldiers were to them, specially the French members.

@NativePortlander1970 lots of atrocities committed there. We really punished the Serbs for it but NATO did too.

@AthrillatheHunt All of the NATO commanders in Yugoslavia should be indicted by the Hague for war crimes, not just Milosivik.

@AthrillatheHunt I've never heard of ANY army in or out of NATO whose membership was free of opportunistic rapists. Unfortunately it's built into the nature of some men and war provides the perfect setting for them to act on it.

@NativePortlander1970 he was THE MAN! I read something like that. And it can be proven w DNA testing. It’s fascinating. I have blue eyes. Meaning I have a common ancestor w all other blue eyes people from only several thousand years ago.
