“Current laws don’t deter looting . . .” (Los Angeles District Attorney)

Photo above - Rambo was jailed for vagrancy in "First Blood". If he'd been looting in Los Angeles, it would have only been a misdemeanor.

Call out the national guard. Some place just had another hurricane-slash-wildfire-slash power failure. If you don’t believe blackouts lead to looting, I direct your attention to the link below regarding New York’s 1977 blackout. The city endured chaotic crime for more than a day.

That was 60 years ago. More relevant today would be looting in the midst of 15,000 homes on fire.

Believe it or not, in California looting is only a misdemeanor, not a felony. Possibly your state too. Los Angeles district attorney (Nathan Hoffman) has only been in office since December, but he’s already pi$$ing off Governor Newsom with his repeated calls to treat looting more seriously than running a stop sign.

Fun fact – I bet most people don’t realize that DUI, car theft, meth, and gun possession by former felons are also misdemeanors in lots of places. So, if you live in LA, and are caught carrying a stolen Sony Bravia 9, strapped with a Glock 19, a baggie of meth in your pocket, and then flee the scene with a stolen Kia Optima with an open bottle of Fireball Cinnamon . . . you might STILL only get a ticket. Possibly no cash bail. Some people are worried that America could backslide and make that sort of behavior actual crimes again.

Newsom is unconvinced there’s a problem. Or at least that he should listen to his new District Attorney, Hoffman (a republican), who ousted longtime DA George Gascon in a landslide a few months ago. The voters have spoken! And this was BEFORE half the city burned down.

Who said elections have consequences, when the governor can ignore an elected DA he dislikes? America’s governance problem might run deeper than “unelected bureaucrats”. Let’s not forget that both Biden and Trump turned loose thousands of jailed felons within a few weeks of inauguration day.

But to be fair, I get where Newsom is coming from. California – despite being America’s wealthy Shangri-la, doesn’t have enough money for police to respond to 911 calls on shoplifting, looting, car theft, arson, or open-air drug dealing. The state can’t even keep its reservoirs in working order or replace decrepit 100-year-old power lines.

California pays some of the highest taxes in the nation. Where does all that money go? Sorry, my bad. A bunch of it goes to $80,000 Tesla police cruisers and that $15 million experimental hydrogen ferryboat. If someone stole a police car or hijacked the ferry, THOSE might be considered felonies. The government takes care of itself better than it does you or me.

I’m just sayin’ . . .

I wonder if looting isnt a large part of the American "coming of age" story. America was originally a penal colony?, of England's,
Much like Australia.
The pilgrims evaded "religious persecution" and were ultimately sepratists from the Church of England. My observation is that lawlessness and taking advantage of the disadvantage of others, is the principle upon which America was "founded". Example the pilgrims fleeing persecution interacted with the already resident "property owners" (Native American Tribes) by stealing there stuff taking their land and killing their people. At the time no one of authority was established to witness them do it, stop them from doing it or to exact punishment for their inhumane acts.
Therefore, America was founded on theft and looting. Why shouldnt the "ex-criminal population" (which is only increasing in number) take advantage of the established wealthy? Especially when nature (once referred to as god\"the powers that be") gives them the opportunity?
The aristocracy was overthrown in France when the commoner took the opportunity to redistribute the wealth?
Id prefer a more peaceful transfer of wealth and power.
Yet precedent does mean something!

@exchrist 🙄🙄🙄 the indigenous Indians CONSTANTLY invaded each others Tribal lands and took it for their own, so what you're saying is that because the English were ethnically WHITE, they couldn't do to the Indians what the Indians were doing between themselves 🤷🏼‍♂🤷🏼‍♂🤷🏼‍♂

🤔 ... the Apaches were notorious for invading other Tribal Lands and KEEPING THEM

@BigGuy2 im saying because the principle of our nations founders was to rob\steal and pillage\plunder and we teach those truths to everyone from an early age. Is it any suprise that this is happening? Also that human nature hasnt changed. It has nothing to do with race only humanity.
Wealth distribution and established precedent. Yes the natives attacked each other with usually equal technology. Europeans were not the first to interfere fyi. The English though didnt leave and claimed things for their own that was my ancestors' by birth.

@BigGuy2 im not transposing morals im stating historical fact. The precedent was set. Natives had ancenstrial lands and burial grounds. The invaders stole the universal access to land at gunpoint.
BigGuy2 · 31-35, M
@exchrist no they didn't, they were acting out the NORMS of society at that time, the 'norms' that have existed since time immemorial, it is the nonsense of the Left that abrogate our modern day morals onto history
exchrist · 31-35
@BigGuy2 the Europeans were acting out of the norms of the time for Europeans; not for the indigenous peoples of the Americas whom had\have tribes and territories of their own. Right?
Example. If alliens from mars landed in virginia made a settlement and confiscated all of the american population's possessions lands and food. Thats the norm theyd be upholdng? Europeans did that first.

@BigGuy2 other indigenous tribes? When the moon natives conquer a moon of mars' orbit. Would you consider it illegal because it IS outside of their same orbit? Or no thatd be legal because they are in different stages of social and economic development?
BigGuy2 · 31-35, M
@exchrist what's socisl and economic development got to do with anything 🤷🏼‍♂🤷🏼‍♂🤷🏼‍♂

Germany started as tribes. England and ireland too in anceint times it was families dynasties. Etc. If the gunpowder that distinguished europe so much from the rest of the world (the Americas) hadnt been stolen from ancient china. Would the rest have happened?
Im drafting a well proposed example. But im doing other things at the moment too. Ill get back to you.
exchrist · 31-35
@BigGuy2 you did not answer my question.
BigGuy2 · 31-35, M
@exchrist yes it would, as it always happened in history

@BigGuy2 ok thanks.

@exchrist america was never a "penal colony". various waves of immigrants included

- pilgrims, fleeing persecution by the Church of England
- people hoping to get rich trapping, cutting timber, or netting cod
- irish people fleeing the potato famine
- jews escaping nazi invasions
- muslims fleeing radical islamists
- italians fleeing organized crime and poverty
- mexicans seeking jobs, and fleeing drug cartels
exchrist · 31-35
@SusanInFlorida ok so its usually refugees? Facing persecution. Thus "fugitives".

@exchrist anyone leaving their home nation expects a better life. whether is distancing themselves from religious persecution, or getting a better job.

have you been living in a cave?
